The floral arrangements throughout my beautiful bridal shower were so perfect I wish they could have lasted forever! My friends and family were also in love with the sweet bunches. They had us all wondering, how do we keep these flowers as fresh as possible for as long as possible?

That Time We Had A Brush With Death On Our Honeymoon

As soon as Brooks and I learned the classic film Out of Africa was filmed at the resort we were staying at, we wanted to see the movie. We waited for a rainy day and watched Out of Africa — in Africa. We were so moved by the true story based on Karen Blixen’s life in Kenya and the incredible things she did for the Maasai people. In the romantic drama, there is an iconic scene where Robert Redford and Meryl Streep are having a picnic. Of course upon discovering that the location this scene was shot at was just over the hillside, I wanted to pay homage to Blixen and her story by recreating the iconic photo from the movie — picnic and all! Celebrate National Watermelon Day with this Granita Recipe

Happy National Watermelon Day! To celebrate, I called on Lori Zanini, RD, and creator of the free 7 day meal plan who I knew would have the perfect use for this summer fruit. Her recipe for Strawberry Watermelon Granitas is exactly what I want on a hot summer day. A super simple dessert that quenches my thirst, improves my skin, AND satisfies my sweet tooth? Watermelon is in its peak season during August, which is perfect, because the hot summer weather requires a major boost in hydration. And, with its high water content (about 92%), watermelon is the ultimate summer snack. Watermelon is also a great source of lycopene, which acts as an antioxidant and protects against certain cancers as well as decreased risk of cardiovascular disease.

So it’s confirmed! Watermelon is a delicious way to promote a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, some initial research indicates foods high in lycopene have a “sunscreen effect,” and may have the ability to improve our skin’s natural SPF. That’s amazing, right?

Here are some more incredible watermelon facts. One cup of watermelon is:
• Less than 50 calories (46 to be exact).
• A good source of vitamin C and potassium.
• Eating watermelon can help reduce puffiness/bloating related to excess salt intake, making it the perfect poolside snack option.

How To Turn Your Backyard Into Your Private Getaway

My honeymoon was the vacation of a lifetime. It’s been a wild summer, so having that time to relax and go on adventures was both incredible and inspiring. I have so many new ideas that came from just allowing my mind to wander. And, while I am so excited to jump back into everything, I also can’t let myself forget the importance of taking it easy every now and then. I think all of us can get caught up in the craziness of day-to-day life, but sometimes it seems impossible to take time off.

If you can’t get away, try bringing the vacation to you by transforming an area of your house into your own personal oasis. With all the awesome outdoor furniture and decor these days, you can easily turn your backyard into an unrecognizable dream land. Invite some friends over to sit around the fire pit or just chill with a glass of wine or a good book at the end of the day. Spend some time whenever you can to just let yourself chill and reflect on all the good things you have in your life!

It might not be exactly the same as an oceanside resort, but it’s just right outside your door!

Your Official Poolside Checklist ✔️✔️✔️

If I could do all my daily activities from inside a pool, I would. Breakfast, phone calls, workouts…you name it. Give me a big enough pool float and I will find a way to never leave. With the whole country dealing with 90°+ temperatures, I think we can all agree that the water is the place to be. So what else do we need to make sure we do this whole swimming pool thing the right way?

Lucky for you, I’ve compiled a handy list of all the things you’ll want to pack to maximize your splash time. First, don’t forget the obvious: your swimsuit (trust me, I’ve done it). One-pieces have made a serious comeback recently, and I am all for it. So many cute prints! Next, you’ll need to complete your outfit with some h20-friendly slides and a breezy cover-up.

Let’s take a minute to talk about a key player in this scenario: the sun. It’s a wonderful thing that gives us good vitamins and natural highlights, but the sun can also do some serious damage. Before you put anything else in that great new summer tote, throw in your sunscreen, sunglasses, and a sun hat. We have to protect your beautiful skin, hair, and eyes! Leave home without any of these necessities and your day could take a major turn for the worse. And don’t forget to make sure you also beat the heat by drinking plenty of water!

And when it’s time to dry off, lay out that towel, spray some sea salt in your hair (the BEST hair is pool hair), and hang out with a good book for awhile. Sounds like just another day in paradise!
