My Favorite Things From My EPIC Bridal Shower

My beautiful sister Sharee hosted my awesome bridal shower in Utah last week. Believe me when I say I was absolutely blown away by the amount of thought and creativity that went into this shower! Sharee enlisted creative genius Heidi Swapp to help her go all out – and all out they went! We had a perfume making station, personalized bracelets, the most delicious food, even customized lemonades, they truly thought of everything! There was so much to do and everything looked so fantastic.

I loved getting to spend time with so many of my friends and family. It was truly one of the best days, and the perfect way to celebrate my engagement. Being surrounded by my loved ones is my favorite place to be!

Heidi took boards from her recently-launched Letterboard collection and used them to create the signage and menus for each station. Heidi also used these boards as decor by adding love quotes and placing them around the shower.

Fun fact: Heidi’s inspiration for the shower was the “love fern” from the movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. With that in mind she included ferns in the centerpieces on the tables and at each station. The fern was used on the invitations, save the dates, napkin holders, perfume labels, advice book and the party favors. It was unique, clever, and fun. My kind of party! Continue Reading

Your Handy Guide to Staying Healthy While Eating Out

I’ll just say it — I am not ever going to be the girl who goes to dinner and orders two stalks of asparagus. I love food! I love going to restaurants, getting take out, snacking at sporting events… you get the idea.

Good news! The secret to being able to double fist your favorite foods is knowing how to order them. Lori Zanini, RD, and creator of the free 7 day meal plan is singing the same tune in these awesome suggestions for what to order when eating out. A few simple swaps can change a not-so-healthy salad (it’s true, not all salads are created clean) into a healthy-yet-still-delish dish.

Whether I’m on the road for work or in my own neighborhood, I love exploring and trying new restaurants. If you know what to look for, choosing healthy menu items is easy no matter what type of restaurant you are trying! You don’t even have to totally overhaul your order.

See Lori’s easy tips for ordering healthier options without sacrificing your taste buds when you’re eating out. She’s even categorized them by restaurant types! Check the out here: Continue Reading

Beth Behrs Is Making A Difference In A Major Way

The talented and beautiful actress Beth Behrs is on a mission to help other women. Beth co-founded SheHerdPower, a program that provides survivors of sexual assault with a weekend of equine therapy. I didn’t know very much about equine therapy (a.k.a. horse therapy) before Beth’s awareness campaign. Now that I’ve learned about the many benefits of working with horses, I truly believe in their healing powers and the importance of Beth’s cause.

“Interacting with horses, we glimpse nature from an entirely different perspective. A view of the world observed through the unconscious side of the brain. Because horses function from the premise of a herd identity, they see relationships as partnerships and allow us to integrate into the herd. For hundreds of years the horse has been a presence in the creation of our world. They can carry us physically and spiritually into uncharted territory, beyond our everyday worries and distractions. Their innate sensitivity and alertness reads the intention of every thing, including the purity of our spirit. The horse is a symbol of transcendence and we have the opportunity to become the Centaur.”
The Reflective Horse Foundation

To increase awareness for SheHerdPower, Beth collaborated with Brass & Unity to design jewelry that directly benefits the program. Proceeds from each bracelet or necklace sold works to empower more survivors of sexual assault and sexual abuse. Continue Reading

Turn Your Morning Hassle Into Your Morning Hustle With These Quaker Overnight Oats

I’m excited to partner with Quaker to tell you guys about the new Quaker Overnight Oats! They may have just saved the day by making it easy to enjoy a breakfast option with virtually no hassle, so we can focus on our morning hustle. One of my favorite morning meals is a hearty bowl of oats with fruit and nuts. The only thing that ever really stands in my way of whipping it up is the hassle of it when I’ve got stuff to do — whether it’s an early call time on set or just a busy day with friends and family. Pre-making your breakfast the night before never sounds fun, especially after we’ve just cleaned up from dinner — who wants more dirty dishes??

It’s as easy as steep, sleep and eat. Before your pretty head hits the pillow, simply add milk or your non-dairy option of choice to the single serve container. Just stir the mixture and let it steep overnight in the refrigerator. As you rise and shine, reach for your ready-to-enjoy oats. See? No mess, no fuss, just deliciousness!

The blend of 100% whole grain oats and other grains, fruit pieces, quinoa, flaxseed and nuts is everything I could ask for — Blueberry, Banana and Vanilla Bliss and Orchard Peach Pecan Perfection are my current faves. There’s no artificial flavors or added colors, and at 300 calories or less before adding your milk or non-dairy option, Quaker’s Overnight Oats are basically the best thing to ever happen to breakfast!

What could you accomplish with a little extra time in the morning??

Ask Jules: Keep Calm and Carry Confidence

One of the greatest joys in my life is hearing stories about your successes and knowing you all are happy, thriving, reaching and achieving your goals. This letter from Taranah made me “wahoo!” out loud! Talk about an inspiring, goal-slaying rock star. I’m proud of Taranah’s success and am honored to have been a very small part of it — let’s be real, this was all you girl! Following this great Ask Jules email are the takeaways Taranah is referring to from my interview with Lewis Howes. Hope the video inspires you to be an even better you, too!

Dear Julianne,

I wanted to share something with you and say thank you for it! I’m in my second year at university studying psychology and we have to take a mandatory course in statistics and coding for which the exam is very difficult. Even though I studied really hard all year, I was extremely anxious during the months leading up to the exam. I tried to be balanced by meditating and working out every day, things both you and my mom advocate! But, I was still very nervous and lacked confidence — and then I watched your interview on success with Lewis Howes from 2015 and somehow it felt like what you said flicked a switch in my brain and I started practicing what you said about breathing and about looking in the mirror and building up your own confidence even when you don’t feel confident or believe the things you’re saying. I watched parts of it every time I started feeling anxious and then practiced your tips.

I got my results today and on this course, which is difficult even to pass, I got 91%! I credit you with a lot of that because all the knowledge I had would never have been enough if I lacked the confidence and calmness to apply it in a stressful situation.

Thank you thank you thank you — you are amazing in every way!

I realise you have an incredibly busy life so of course I’m not expecting an answer but I really hope you read this because I so wanted you to know 🙂

Lots of Love,
Taranah

How To Stay Hydrated And Be Kind To The Planet At The Same Time

We all know we’re supposed to drink more water every day, but that’s easy to forget during your morning latte or when your BFF made too much sangria (is there even such a thing?). On the occasion you do remember to go for some classic H20, it’s nearly impossible to find something other than plastic bottles. Sure, you’ve quenched your thirst, but if you’re anything like me, you’ve replaced that feeling with guilt over not choosing a more eco-friendly option. Enter: Boxed Water.

Boxed Water is changing the game of convenient hydration. When their minimal-but-bold packaging first caught my eye, I had to know more. Turns out, Boxed Water is so much more than well-designed Instagram bait. Everything this water company does is about ultimate sustainability. The recyclable cartons are made using paper from well-managed forests, and they are partnered with the National Forest Foundation to make sure all forests keep growing.

As a part of their ReTree Project, Boxed Water plants Boxed Water plants trees for every social post, newsletter subscription and web store purchases. They have planted over half a million trees (!!!), and the number is increasing every second.

We all need to do our part to protect our planet, even if it’s something as small as recycling cartons. Drinking Boxed Water when I’m thirsty and on the road definitely makes me feel a little better about my carbon footprint. Continue Reading

A Mini Hough Reunion in Nashville

A few weeks ago, Move Beyond landed in one of my favorite cities: Nashville! To me, Tennessee means family. My mom, sister Marabeth, her husband Michael, and their son Aidan came to the show along with our cousin Heidi, her husband Matt, and their six (six!) kids. Matt was beyond surprised when I picked him out from the audience to dance on stage with the amazing Move dancers. As I suspected, being the great sport he is, Matt got really into it! It was hilarious. I asked Marabeth to share her great photos and favorite moments from the night with you and because she’s the best, she jumped on it! Take it away, sis.

Attending Move Beyond was more than just a family affair. I also had a ton of friends and clients, plus so many other people there to support the tour. We all got to go backstage after the show to snap fun pictures and hang with the dancers. It was so funny when Derek came out in his towel and photo bombed a picture!

Julianne wears a wig that looks just like me so in true Julianne form she put on a hilarious show, acting like me while mimicking my mannerisms. Continue Reading

How To Be The Best Dressed Wedding Guest

One of the many things I love about being styled by Anita Patrickson is that she identifies dresses that make me feel sexy, but are still tasteful and classy. One of the common misconceptions about dressing sexy is that it involves showing a lot of skin — I’ve learned it’s the illusion of those things that makes an outfit sexy. And the character of the woman wearing the clothes, of course!

Now that we are in the throes of wedding season, a lot of us are looking for that perfect wedding-guest dress. I’ve compiled some of my favorite looks that make for excellent wedding guest inspirations! Before you shop, inspect your invitation for dress code instructions to ensure you’re properly attired.

Hometown Tour: Melissa Moore Shares Her Favorite Spots in Phoenix

These local guides have quickly become one of my very favorite series I’ve ever done. I have loved seeing each of these cities from a local’s perspective — it makes me want to travel more! After I’ve recovered from being on the road these last few months, of course.

Yesterday the MOVE Tour stopped in Phoenix, and even though I only had time to dance in and dance out, I asked Melissa Moore of Stylista Fitness to show us some of her favorite spots so I can live vicariously. I can’t wait to come back and see more of what Phoenix has to offer!

xo
Jules

Hi, friends! My name is Melissa Moore, the blogger behind a Phoenix, AZ lifestyle blog called Stylista Fitness. If it’s your first time in Phoenix, I’m here to share my favorite spots to shop, have a bite to eat and get your beauty on.

Although, my original hometown is Los Angeles, Phoenix has been my home for the last twelve years. I’m proud to show you what we have to offer and give you a sneak peek to some cute places around town. As far as weather goes, summer can get pretty hot but the rest of the year is sunny and almost always in the 70s. Hope you enjoy the spots I picked out!

1. Favorite Cafe: Luci’s at the Orchard
We all know the best way to start the day touring a city is with coffee and food in your stomach. Luci’s at the Orchard is your picture perfect spot for this. Not only do they have an extensive breakfast and lunch menu, they have an outdoor open, airy space where you can enjoy your food.

On a hot day, my go-to is their iced chai tea latte with coconut milk. They have a full menu of drinks (even wine) and healthy smoothies. You honestly can’t go wrong with their menu! Everything is DELICIOUS! Continue Reading

Better Sleep = Better Living

Whenever I’m on the road, as much as I absolutely love being on tour, I can’t help but dream about sleeping in my own bed. I truly believe better sleep leads to better health, wellness, and overall living. Designing the perfect sleep environment is an absolute priority at home. It’s something I’ve been trying to recreate on the road with the assistance of several brilliant products.

And of course, I always make sure to check in on my FitBit Charge HR to track and monitor my sleep habits.

Below are my must haves from home and my on-the-road sleep solutions while on tour for MOVE Beyond.

HOW I GET MY BEST SLEEP AT HOME

1. (Don’t) Let There Be Light
Sleep experts say deep darkness is the key to a deep sleep. It’s important to shut off or cover any tiny lights from electronics and cover all windows with blackout curtains. Light, sheer curtains may look pretty during the day but they could result in dark circles under the eyes.

2. Sleep On It
Having a great mattress is of the utmost importance to me. Mattresses range from totally affordable to crazy expensive, but no matter what your budget when you find the one that’s right for you you can have the best sleep ever. Continue Reading
