The dictionary defines the word “success” as: the fact of getting or achieving wealth, respect, or fame. Wait, what? That’s certainly not my definition of success. Strayer University brought attention to this interpretation of the word and they didn’t just give it the ol’ eye roll. They’ve actually started a campaign to redefine the Webster Dictionary’s meaning of success. How cool is that?!
I don’t believe success has anything to do with wealth or prestige. Someone could be extremely well off financially, able to afford anything money can buy, but not have a great group of friends or a family to enjoy it with. That doesn’t sound very successful! To me, success has more to do with the moments that make us feel spectacular, attaining personal achievements or goals, and finding happiness.
When Strayer University wanted to shoot footage of me doing something that makes me feel successful, it was a no brainer. I chose to let them film me being active, working out and dancing since that’s what makes me feel alive and like my true self. Those feelings are the makings of personal success.
What do you guys think about this petition? What’s your definition of success?
