Family Fitness Day is this Saturday, September 30th, and even though there are a lot of silly holidays out there (looking at you, National Donut Day), I love this special day purposed to promote family involvement in physical fitness. My family famously loves to choreograph dances and do other physical activities together but often our schedules get in the way, as they do with many families. We’re taking this day as an opportunity to plan something awesome together! To inspire other families to follow suit, I’ve listed below some of the ways my family (and chosen family!) choose to be active and healthy together.
1. Get natural.
Grand plans are not always required. Activities such as swimming, hiking, checking out the park or hitting up the beach are all active ways to enjoy the day and each other.
2. Get classy.
Sometimes my girlfriends and I will sign up for a spin class together. It’s a great way to spend time together while doing something good for your body and your mind. Lately, Derek and I have been mixing things up by going to boxing classes together. I’d love to sign my family up for a group yoga, barre, or (obviously) dance class.
3. Get crazy.
You know I’m always down to get silly when it comes to competitive sports. My family had the best time going paint balling (so painful, btw!). Plus there’s always laser tag, miniature golf, surfing, skating — roller and ice — basically so many fun options to get moving in a creative way. Don’t be afraid to try something new! If you’re doing it together, it will be fun
4. Get clean.
Clean eating that is! When we’re at home, Brooks, Derek, Kristy and I all take turns making juice for each other, and we love getting together over a healthy meal. Eating a good-for-you dinner together is a fun and delicious way to reward yourself after an active day.
