On most days around mid-afternoon I begin to deflate, feeling like a sinking balloon days after a party. Caffeine always crosses my mind but I know one cup of coffee too late in the day usually translates to tossing and turning late at night.
Luckily I discovered a healthy (and delicious!) way to energize that won’t result in a late night buzz or early crash.
My Pretty Powder Super Smoothie has become my must have for many reasons. Besides giving me a great energy boost, Hum Nutrition’s superfood powder also keeps my metabolism in check. I call it pretty powder because in addition to keeping me out of cranky status, it also improves my skin tone. Plus, there’s no feeling less attractive than being tired and hungry. From there, things can get ugly.
• 1 scoop Hum Nutrition Raw Beauty Green Superfood Powder
• 1 cup almond milk
• ½ banana
• ½ cup strawberries
• ½ cup ice
Blend until smooth and enjoy your day!
By the way, if I don’t have time to make this smoothie, or when traveling on the go, I’ll skip the ingredients and mix one scoop of Raw Beauty from Hum Nutrition into a serving of water or almond milk. This would be an easy way to perk up while you’re at work or school and sans blender.
It’s officially September, so that means one thing in the world of wonderful snacks: pumpkin flavored everything! Every year I look forward to a toasty, spicy latte. It feels awesomely nostalgic and sends my taste buds into a fall frenzy. When I learned how unhealthy those pumpkin lattes can be when purchased at most coffee chains, I sought out a solution. Many cafes use a ton of sugar, artificial colors, flavors, and to my shock — zero actual pumpkin!
This recipe uses real pumpkin and sweetens with honey, but you could use agave or other sweetener you prefer. Even 2 teaspoons of granulated sugar, if that’s your jam! It also works whether you’re a coffee or a tea person. Either way you sip it, it’s sooo good.
Pizza is definitely one of my favorite food groups. What’s that? You don’t think pizza is a food group? Well, let’s just agree to disagree.
Whether I go with a classic cheese or pile my pie high with yummy toppings, it’s always good to me. When I heard people taking about replacing the dough with a cauliflower crust, I was skeptical. How could it possibly taste the same? Then I gave it a go and surprisingly, I liked it! Is it chewy, doughy bread? No. Is it totally the same as my usual bite of pizza? Nope. But it is delicious, just in a different way.
I try not to ever feel guilty for what I eat, but sometimes I can’t help but think, whoa — I just cleared my plate. My second plate. With cauliflower-crusted pizza, you can consume your heart out because you’re grubbing on good for you foods that closely resemble a splurge.
Definitely try this one at home and let me know what you think!
This recipe had me at chocolate. And then again at avocado. Is it possible to put two of the greatest things ever together and still taste amazing, or will all that goodness cancel the other out? The answer: YUM.
Leave it to Jessica Merchant of How Sweet It Is to whip up a sweet treat that is not only good for your health (hello, antioxidants), but for your skin and hair, too! The best benefit of them all is the one that happens on your tastebuds. Enjoy!
I’m always in search of recipes that satisfy both my adult brain and my inner child. My grown up voice says, “Eat chia seeds! They’re nutritious, packed with fiber, protein, Omega-3s and more!” But my kid voice says, “Marshmallows shaped like rainbows and clovers make for a perfectly respectable meal!”
This magically delicious (there, I said it) dish created by Jessica Merchant of How Sweet It Is, is pretty much the mecca of all big kid breakfasts.
Last week, I made a big ol’ bowl of this delicious salad meant to be a side dish to our dinner. I overestimated the amount of ingredients and ended up with a lot leftover. For the rest of the week, I found myself snacking on this salad several times a day and when I ran out, I made it again.
This light salad is refreshing, zesty, and healthy. There’s no shame in having multiple servings because it’s really good for you! Make it as a side to your main meal or copy me by keeping it on hand for a ready-made snack.
Pennants are to parties what candles are to birthday cake. The tapered flags are a traditional decoration that tastefully screams, “Celebrate!” When I found these pennant cookies on Bakerella, I knew I had to make them for my next party. The great thing about these cookies is they work for every occasion from baby showers and welcome homes to happy birthdays!
Peanut. Butter. Pie. Need I say more? Don’t let the word “pie” fool you. This rich and creamy recipe from
ifoodreal is high in protein, low sugar, plus it has fiber and good fats. One serving has about 381 calories — just about the same amount of calories in a protein bar. Really! Furthermore, it’s gluten free and vegan. It’s practically a vegetable! 🙂
Go make this pie, and then call me immediately because I’m coming over with a fork.
Thanks to Beyonce’s new album, I’ve had one thing on my mind since it’s release: Lemonade! Is there anything more refreshing and sweet than a tall, chilled glass of lemonade? No pool day or BBQ is complete without it, in my opinion. Since I’m all about putting an exciting twist on a traditional classic, I set out to find a next level lemonade and I found it on Confectionalism!
Next to a twist of lemon, coconut water is another favorite of mine when it comes to quenching my thirst. Add another ingredient I adore, lavender, and now we are talking!
We all know about the health benefits of drinking water throughout the day. Not only does it help your organs function better, staying hydrated is great for your skin, mood and energy levels. Staying on top of your intake can be challenging at times, and let’s face it — sometimes you want a tasty beverage or treat instead of a glass of regular ol’ H20. That’s where these three recipes come in; they are a few of my favorite water-based combos meant to help incorporate hydration throughout the day. Try them and let me know what you think!
