How To Bring The Sunshine Indoors

March is kind of a funny month for home decorating. And I love me some decorations. Gone are the sparkling trees, colorful lights and happy imagery that took over my house not long ago. Everything suddenly goes back to the way it was – which isn’t a bad thing, but it’s just not the same. This month, I decided to keep the festive feeling alive by turning my home into a celebration of seasons changing.

Since it’s not quite winter and not yet spring, I chose shades of sunshine yellow! You can’t even use the word yellow without adding a ! It’s yellow!

How cute is this sign from Etsy?!

I like to pick up some of my favorite candles from Jo Malone and Anthropologie in scents like lemon, basil and mandarin. I always have fresh flowers in the house (stay tuned for my tips on keeping orchids in bloom) and to keep with my pre-blooming theme, I’ll put bouquets of lilies in large vases packed with lemons or limes.

I also like to stage little scenes that celebrate the arrival of spring all over the house – in the bathroom, the kitchen, even in hidden nooks like the dark corner of a bookshelf that might otherwise go unnoticed. It’s an easy, inexpensive way to brighten your day, your home and find the joy in the little things.

How do you make your space happy?

I love your ideas for brightening your home in the transition between winter and spring- you’re so right about the post-holiday lull! Soy candles are a great way to add light and energy to a room and plus they are better for the environment and last longer than regular candles! You mentioned Anthropologie and and Jo Malone, but I love to get mine from Noel’s Novelties- https://www.facebook.com/pages/Noels-Novelties/944323185586879?sk=info&tab=page_info
You should check them out sometime!

Also if you can’t have candles where you live like me, thanks to campus housing, then use Scents candles. They aren’t candles, they are cubes of wax that burn with electricity so there are no flames involved! Great way to freshen up a room without breaking one of the housing rules.
