We all know kids can be mean. All of us have experienced bullying on some level, whether we’ve witnessed someone being bullied, been bullied ourselves, or even been the bully. Bullying isn’t only a problem for the one being targeted. It’s a problem for the school, the office, and the entire community.
My friends at Kind Campaign speak out about being the anti bully. An anti bully is someone who stops and prevents this behavior by raising awareness, providing guidance, and being supportive to everyone involved. I want to share with you an inspiring story about an anti bully and a brave boy.
Sixth grader Julian had a pretty big surgery last spring to correct his scoliosis. That fall, Julian started a new school, in a new state, with a fragile back, and two new accessories: a big ol’ brace, and a roller bag. Being the new kid in middle school can be awkward in itself, I can’t imagine having to wear a back brace and haul around a roller bag on top of that. Julian began getting teased almost immediately. A group of older kids were laughing at him, and while an adult might shrug this behavior off and move along, when you’re a kid, being different can be really hard. Suffice to say Julian was not having the greatest school experience. Continue Reading
I recently heard about Bullet Journals from one of my friends, and was immediately obsessed. There’s nothing better than committing your thoughts, tasks and goals to paper, and bullet journals are the perfect way to organize yourself into being the very best version of you every day. After all, who doesn’t want to be more organized?!
One of the ways this system is a bit different than anything else I’ve used before is the ability to customize everything. I love the idea of the habit tracker and having a place where you can be accountable for how you choose to spend your time. I also love the mood trackers and having space to write down your daily “gratefuls.” These journals are truly unique to every person who has ever created one!
I’ve been following Natascha, aka @howtobulletjournal, on Instagram for awhile. She’s truly an expert on bullet journals, and I thought she’d be the best person to tell you everything you need to know about this amazing system.
You have to let me know if you think this is as exciting as I do!
As a college student, I’m on the move all the time; dashing to class, running errands, clean my apartment and studying at home, in the library or at a local coffee shop. With all this commotion, it’s easy to forget the little tasks with deadlines that sneak up on me throughout the week. If this sounds like you, it’s time to consider finding an organization system that will fine-tune your busy lifestyle!
The Bullet Journal is a customizable and forgiving organization system. It can be your everything. It’s a to-do list, sketchbook, notebook, diary and more. You can make it simple and productive and/or make it as beautiful as you like. It’s your place to track everything you want to keep track off. Continue Reading
Starting and maintaining a blog isn’t quite as simple as write, click, post. There’s a whole lot more to being a bona fide blogger. Gurtej’s email brought me back a few years before I had my website up and running. I had many of the same concerns as she does, like: Would anyone visit the site? Would they be as inspired as I hoped? How do I keep you guys coming back? I am happy to say I’ve learned a lot about blogging and I’m happy to share it here!
My name is Gurtej Matharu and I love your blog, it is truly filled with positivity and inspiration.
I was wondering if you have any advice to blogging beginners? This October I started my blog called Cup of Tea for Thought.
I am having so much fun with the blog, but I cannot help but feel as if it is not going anywhere. I started a blog for me, because I was having some trouble adjusting to the new University I go to, but I also started the blog because I wanted to be able to inspire people the way people have inspired me through their blogs.
I know I have just started and things like this take time, but I was wondering if you could give me some advice?
Thank you so much!!
PS: Thanks to your challenge post, I started a challenge for myself this month! I call it the December to Remember Challenge, it is basically a challenge to make the most out of life’s little things from taking a walk in the park with my dog to volunteering where ever help is needed.
I’d love for you all to join forces with me and become a source of light and happiness for 750 teens and children in foster care. Together I know we can help make their holidays a little brighter. I can’t imagine what life must be like for them, and we have a chance to do one small thing to make them feel loved this holiday season.
All we have to do is purchase and send a gift card with a minimum of $25 to my friends at The Felix Organization. They will distribute the cards directly to these deserving teens and children.
Being a Secret Santa is super easy — most online stores will even allow you to send a gift card straight from their website!
Here are some of the stores that I think would make great gifts:

One of the ways I keep myself motivated and mentally strong is by collecting moving quotes by people who inspire me. They might be characters from a movie, singer-songwriters, teachers, and so on. I appreciate it when I’m going through something and a friend shares a quote that helped them get through a similar circumstance. I think one of the greatest gifts we can give each other is inspiration, and sometimes that comes in the simple form of a sentence or two.
This week, let’s celebrate women who inspire us! What is your favorite female quote? What does it mean to you?
The winter holidays have a wonderful effect on many of us when it comes to being charitable. More than any other time of year, late November and December encourages communities to come together in support of those less fortunate. As we’re shopping for the perfect Christmas present we’ll see volunteers collecting change for charity. Offices and schools begin requesting donated toys and non-perishables.
Perhaps the abundance of home cooked meals, exciting gifts and family-themed festivities bring out our desire to give to the needy because it reminds us of how fortunate we are. Around Thanksgiving, shelters are usually overwhelmed by the amount of volunteers. While this is a good thing, it also shows the power of the season and the influence it has on our good intentions. I believe many of you will agree that it’s equally as important to be charitable during the months where we aren’t reminded by the season of giving.
This month, let’s be one step ahead of the rest by volunteering at a shelter, donating items to a charitable organization, or delivering food to people in need — before it’s expected.
Will you please join me in this challenge and encourage others to do the same?
I’ll be keeping a watchful eye on all you do-gooders! And because I love to pay it forward to those who pay it forward, one of you will be “one step ahead” in a pair of Dolce Vita over-the-knee boots!
To qualify, post a photo on Instagram of you donating your time or doing something to benefit others in need. Use the hashtag #onestepaheadwithjules and you could win a pair of Dolce Vita boots! The winner will be announced Monday, November 21, 2016.
I meant it when I said I’m all for you guys sending challenges my way. Please do keep them coming because I’m always game (unless it has to do with elephant dung because been there, done that.) I love this email sent-in by Jess. She’s absolutely right — many of us take the time to learn new languages, and learning how to sign is just as important.
I love that you take every challenge into consideration because it shows how strong you are and how willing you are to anything. Anyways, I grew up with deaf parents but I am hearing. I had to learn sign language growing up in order to communicate with my parents. I notice that my parents, including other hearing impaired people have faced discrimination. There are a lot of people in our world who do not take the time to learn sign language. So my challenge for you is to learn sign language to show people that we have to work together and not discriminate people.
We all have something that we say we should do differently. I know I should be avoiding screens 45 minutes before bed. Studies have proven the blue light from televisions and phones suppresses the production of melatonin, keeping us awake longer.
But we both know it’s not that easy! Sometimes it feels nice to fall asleep to a movie. And how hard is it not to check email or reply to texts just before heading to sleepy town? I know from experience that while habits are hard to break, it starts with one small step.
For this challenge, let’s each choose a habit we not only know we should change, but something we could change to better ourselves and do it for 30 days! In the end, we’ll either have adopted a new way of living or we’ll decide it wasn’t for us. Either way, we’ll feel great knowing we made a change with good intentions and that we have control over our vices. It’s a win/win! Continue Reading
