This great Love Your Melon challenge was sent to me from Sam on behalf of the Liberty University Campus Crew. Sam and her L.U. friends are participating in the Love Your Melon challenge, which raises awareness for children with cancer. The crews are competing against each other by seeing who can raise the most awareness. I’m honored Sam reached out to me and happy to use my platform to bring attention to pediatric cancer. Sam, challenge accepted!

Being charitable is one of the highest priorities in my life. For many, the word “charity” might translate to giving money or providing funds for those in needs. Charity can mean many things. It’s donating on a smaller level — for example a few cans of non-perishable foods. It’s volunteering your time. It’s really just helping another out in any way you can. This email from Ky is a great reminder to find ways in which we can all be more charitable.
I would love to do more charity work and donate money to as many places as I can — unfortunately, my friends spread out over different states and are all super busy and unable to do charity work. I would love to do fundraisers earning money for children’s hospitals, animal shelters, protecting endangered species, helping foster homes and even donate money to fund research for illnesses. I’d rather give money than have money — unfortunately I don’t know where to begin with organizing and starting a fundraiser of any kind! Any ideas?
I think it’s awesome you aspire to do more charity work. It’s also honorable and sweet that you would rather give what you have to others than have it yourself. There are so many ways you can raise funds for those who need it despite your busy friends living far away. As far as getting started, I say you focus on one mission at a time — at least for now while you’re just getting started.
If I were in your shoes, I’d search for a local organization that focuses on a cause I feel especially connected to. From there, I’d look into events they’re putting on (marathons, walks, and so on) to see how I could participate, help raise funds or become an event volunteer. In addition, I’d go to the websites of other organizations I’d like to contribute to, click on the “contact” tab, then call or email them to see how how you could be of service.
One of my biggest passions is spreading the joy of being healthy and having a positive attitude, so Derek and I came up with an in-person workout event last year that has become something truly amazing. It’s my way of giving back to something I care about, and hopefully each one of our events has impacted those who attended to go home and continue spreading the positive vibes.
Please keep me posted on your awesome endeavors! I know you’ll impact your community in a big way very soon.
I love it when you guys send me challenges like the one below. Anne’s important message is one we should all keep in mind, at all times. Keep the challenges coming at firstname.lastname@example.org!
I have a challenge for you… If you choose to accept it.
The past few years, I have been trying to pay more attention to the waste/trash I generate. Some people call it “Zero Waste,” but, let’s be serious, you are never going to create zero waste (I’m never giving up toilet paper or tampons, just saying).
Usually when we make a purchase the deal ends at the point of sale. You’ve made your selection, exchanged payment, then, life goes on. Unless of course the item you’ve purchased takes a portion of their proceeds to support a worthy cause. Then, your purchase continues it’s journey toward making a positive impact.
When I’m carrying a bag, wearing a bracelet, or using a product that is intended to make the world a better place in some way, I wear it proudly. It goes beyond having something great, it’s doing something good. In the spirit of brands who give back, I’ve rounded up some products I support especially because they support a worthy cause.

These gorgeous blankets are more than an awesome addition to your home. For every blanket they sell they give one to someone in need.
This fashion company has a mission of creating sustainable business opportunities for women. The company works both locally and globally with women coming from many diverse backgrounds. I love this Abera Crossbody Tote which comes in tons of colors — and can even be personalized!
We all know kids can be mean. All of us have experienced bullying on some level, whether we’ve witnessed someone being bullied, been bullied ourselves, or even been the bully. Bullying isn’t only a problem for the one being targeted. It’s a problem for the school, the office, and the entire community.
My friends at Kind Campaign speak out about being the anti bully. An anti bully is someone who stops and prevents this behavior by raising awareness, providing guidance, and being supportive to everyone involved. I want to share with you an inspiring story about an anti bully and a brave boy.
Sixth grader Julian had a pretty big surgery last spring to correct his scoliosis. That fall, Julian started a new school, in a new state, with a fragile back, and two new accessories: a big ol’ brace, and a roller bag. Being the new kid in middle school can be awkward in itself, I can’t imagine having to wear a back brace and haul around a roller bag on top of that. Julian began getting teased almost immediately. A group of older kids were laughing at him, and while an adult might shrug this behavior off and move along, when you’re a kid, being different can be really hard. Suffice to say Julian was not having the greatest school experience. Continue Reading
I recently heard about Bullet Journals from one of my friends, and was immediately obsessed. There’s nothing better than committing your thoughts, tasks and goals to paper, and bullet journals are the perfect way to organize yourself into being the very best version of you every day. After all, who doesn’t want to be more organized?!
One of the ways this system is a bit different than anything else I’ve used before is the ability to customize everything. I love the idea of the habit tracker and having a place where you can be accountable for how you choose to spend your time. I also love the mood trackers and having space to write down your daily “gratefuls.” These journals are truly unique to every person who has ever created one!
I’ve been following Natascha, aka @howtobulletjournal, on Instagram for awhile. She’s truly an expert on bullet journals, and I thought she’d be the best person to tell you everything you need to know about this amazing system.
You have to let me know if you think this is as exciting as I do!
As a college student, I’m on the move all the time; dashing to class, running errands, clean my apartment and studying at home, in the library or at a local coffee shop. With all this commotion, it’s easy to forget the little tasks with deadlines that sneak up on me throughout the week. If this sounds like you, it’s time to consider finding an organization system that will fine-tune your busy lifestyle!
The Bullet Journal is a customizable and forgiving organization system. It can be your everything. It’s a to-do list, sketchbook, notebook, diary and more. You can make it simple and productive and/or make it as beautiful as you like. It’s your place to track everything you want to keep track off. Continue Reading
Starting and maintaining a blog isn’t quite as simple as write, click, post. There’s a whole lot more to being a bona fide blogger. Gurtej’s email brought me back a few years before I had my website up and running. I had many of the same concerns as she does, like: Would anyone visit the site? Would they be as inspired as I hoped? How do I keep you guys coming back? I am happy to say I’ve learned a lot about blogging and I’m happy to share it here!
My name is Gurtej Matharu and I love your blog, it is truly filled with positivity and inspiration.
I was wondering if you have any advice to blogging beginners? This October I started my blog called Cup of Tea for Thought.
I am having so much fun with the blog, but I cannot help but feel as if it is not going anywhere. I started a blog for me, because I was having some trouble adjusting to the new University I go to, but I also started the blog because I wanted to be able to inspire people the way people have inspired me through their blogs.
I know I have just started and things like this take time, but I was wondering if you could give me some advice?
Thank you so much!!
PS: Thanks to your challenge post, I started a challenge for myself this month! I call it the December to Remember Challenge, it is basically a challenge to make the most out of life’s little things from taking a walk in the park with my dog to volunteering where ever help is needed.
I’d love for you all to join forces with me and become a source of light and happiness for 750 teens and children in foster care. Together I know we can help make their holidays a little brighter. I can’t imagine what life must be like for them, and we have a chance to do one small thing to make them feel loved this holiday season.
All we have to do is purchase and send a gift card with a minimum of $25 to my friends at The Felix Organization. They will distribute the cards directly to these deserving teens and children.
Being a Secret Santa is super easy — most online stores will even allow you to send a gift card straight from their website!
Here are some of the stores that I think would make great gifts:

One of the ways I keep myself motivated and mentally strong is by collecting moving quotes by people who inspire me. They might be characters from a movie, singer-songwriters, teachers, and so on. I appreciate it when I’m going through something and a friend shares a quote that helped them get through a similar circumstance. I think one of the greatest gifts we can give each other is inspiration, and sometimes that comes in the simple form of a sentence or two.
This week, let’s celebrate women who inspire us! What is your favorite female quote? What does it mean to you?
