Let’s Face It: My Daily Skincare Routine

One of the most popular questions I get in my AskJules inbox has to do with my skincare routine. Most of the time it is, “What do you use to keep your skin clear?” But here’s the thing: not all t-zones are created equally! What works for you might not work for me, and vice-versa.

The last thing I want is to tell you exactly what products I use and you don’t get the same results because we have different skin. Instead, I’ve outlined my basic skincare routine and broken it down with different types of products based on the three most common skin types.

My Morning Skincare Routine

1. A Gentle Wake Up
Every morning, I start my day by refreshing my skin with a gentle wash. Depending on your skin type, this can be anything from cool water and a washcloth to a gentle morning cleanser. For acne-prone skin, I always recommend Proactiv.

2. Keep It Light
I like a light moisturizer that isn’t going to feel greasy or heavy. And don’t forget the most important thing — sun protection!! With moisturizers, sometimes you just have to try a few before you find the perfect one. You’ll know after wearing it a few hours if it’s perfect for you.

My Night Time Skincare Routine

1. Clean It Up
I love to give my face a deep clean before hitting the sheets. There’s something so cathartic about literally washing your day away before going to sleep!

2. Keep It Tight
I’ll follow up with a toner to clear away any dust, pollution, or other impurities my face wash didn’t catch. Toner is also a great way to tighten pores and balance your skin’s PH levels.

3. Give It A Scrub
Exfoliating can be done nightly, weekly, or even bi-weekly. There are many ways to exfoliate your skin, including scrubs, salicylic acids, peels, and more. I choose to use a gentle scrub every other night, but find something that works for you!

4. Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate
My nighttime moisturizer is much thicker than daytime because it has more work to do. Did you know our skin loses most of it’s moisture while we are sleeping?

5. The Eyes Have It
Eye cream is so essential. I dab this baby under my eyes, on top of my moisturizer. When I wake up, I feel like my eyes look more refreshed and it helps keep those pesky dark circles at bay.

Bonus tip: If you have sensitive skin like me, choose products that are fragrance free and hypoallergenic. Also, look for products that say “noncomedogenic” which is just a science-y way of saying it won’t clog your pores.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t say, the very best skincare routine is getting plenty of sleep and fueling your body and skin with healthy nutrients. Remember, you’re gorgeous no matter what type of skin you have. Just take care of it and drink lots of water!

    What about taking care of your skin before and after a workout? Do you take off your makeup before the workout and then put it back on again after?


  2. I love this article. My skin is pretty clear and I moisturize, but I never know when to exfoliate and tone so I will definitely try this routine above!

  3. Hey Jules I also have sensitive skin, and haven’t found facial products that work for me yet. From your experience which do you find work best for sensitive or dry skin
