Having a clear complexion is more than merely a surface situation. I know when I have a monster blemish I tend to be more standoff-ish and a little less confident. I can’t help but wonder when talking to someone, “Are they looking at me, or are they looking at my pimple?!”
Feeling good about my skin and appearance gives me an added sense of security. Like so many of you, I have tried endless amounts of products and treatments. The fact is, we all have different chemistry; it’s not a one-potion-fixes-all situation.
Sometimes in tougher cases it’s better to have a professional guide us in the right direction. The same can be said about make-up application. It’s not always about having the perfect red lip. Some of us weren’t blessed with a full brow and by filling it in, we feel like the better version of us. I say, whatever it takes to help you feel stronger, more confident and happier is what you should seek!
First of all you are my role model and I am so glad you started your website. I read something new on it everyday and it always inspires me. Anyways, my face has been looking really dry, and yours just looks amazing. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on getting a smoother softer face? If you have any, I am dying to know!
When it comes to my hair, you all know how big a fan I am of loose beachy waves. I appreciate the maybe I woke up like this, maybe I didn’t look they have while being a little too strategic to be straight out of bed. The truth, as we know, is that falling somewhere between straight and curly takes a little more than a dip in the Pacific. There are heated tools and products involved. Ironically it takes some work to look effortless.
Six years ago, I thought — what about getting a beachy perm? That was, after all, what we did to maintain curls years and years ago. “No way, no how,” said my friend and stylist Riawna Capri. She didn’t want to damage my hair with harsh chemicals. Fair enough.
Being the hair genius she is, Riawna was able to work out a way for me to get the perm I’ve been wanting while maintaining the integrity of my hair! Now I can say, I really did wake up like this! My get ready time has significantly decreased and I’ve never loved my beachy tresses any more than I do now.
What do you guys think? Are you willing to try a perm?
Hello! I’m Spencer Barnes and I have been doing Jules’ makeup for over eight years now. We first met on a shoot for a Juicy Fruit commercial. I was pretty much smitten by her infectiously radiant and upbeat personality.
Since then, we have shared many amazing adventures together. I have been able to watch her incredible career continue to evolve and develop up close & personal. Quite simply, Julianne is one of my favorite people on the planet. One of the things I love most about Jules is her sunny disposition and bright-eyed optimism for life, living and friends. She truly is pure sunshine and has a golden heart.
Speaking of Jules, she tells me that some of you have inquired how to achieve that sunny “wide awake eyes” look. Here are some of my favorite tips and techniques: Continue Reading
The trending lipstick shades for spring reach way beyond pigment. The latest look calls for a rich hue in velvety matte. The colors-du-jour are variations of coral, tomato red, and shocking pink — however, if you’re not into bold lips there are more muted shades in a matte texture that are just as stunning.
To pull off a matte lipstick your lips have to be prepped and healthy, otherwise they’ll look cracked and dry. Remember my DIY lip scrub? It’s exactly what you need to prep your pout.
Beauty tip: If you’re going for heavily-hued lips, keep everything else clean and neutral.
Last week, my friend was a little let down by her latest trip to the salon. In hopes of going lighter and brighter, her visions of golden blonde locks turned out looking lackluster and dull. The end of the world it was not, but she was bummed to say the least. She was about to make another appointment when we thought to reach out to a hairstylist friend for advice. What she suggested sounded crazy, but we tried it!
“Wash your hair with dish soap.” WHAT??? “Trust me,” she said.
The dish soap DIY was a surprising success! It removed the brassy layer and left behind a much blonder, shinier, prettier shade. This hair hack can be used any time you want to gently remove any color or lighten up your hair. Continue Reading
Like fashion, winter manicure colors are all about warmth. During the colder months I’ll sport a deep, dark red or an edgy, sharp black, but now that we are heading into a fresh and bright spring season, I am ready to switch things up. New York Fashion Week is obviously the indicator for fashion trends, but it’s also the best place to check out makeup and nail trends for the coming seasons. Continue Reading
Happy first of March! With spring well on its way and shamrock decor about to take over, this month is all about one color: green. The happy hue reminds me of all things fresh and bright, two things I strive to incorporate into my everyday. One way to celebrate the luck of the Irish and their signature grassy shade is to go green… on your eyes!
When I apply a colored eye shadow, I steer clear of going lid to brow. Especially in this case, where it would appear as if I’m growing a lawn over my eyes. Instead, I choose a neutral shade that matches my skin tone to accompany and balance out the stronger shade.
I’ve learned, to keep heavily pigmented colors from falling onto your face during application, causing crazy color cheeks (yikes), apply your eye make up before foundation. Post eye-make up, clear any debris using a cotton swab with toner. Continue Reading
Every year the color experts at Pantone name a color that will serve as the “it” trend in fashion, home décor, beauty and beyond in the seasons to come. This year for the first time two shades were chosen: rose quartz and serenity.
According to Pantone, “Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.”
Whether you’re a trend follower or not, it’s still fun to seek out these colors especially when they evoke words like “calm” and “relaxation.”
I got pretty inspired while searching through some of my favorite products for shades of rose quartz and serenity. I always forget about blue mascara! It’s a subtle way to add a simple, surprising pop to your look. The same for light bubble gum pink lips.
Did too much kissing on Valentine’s Day leave your lips a little dry? Okay, that was super cheesy. But seriously, did it? Whether your pout is perfectly fine or not, tinted balms are truly the bomb. The good ones are creamy, effortless, and effective. The subtle hint of color provides a touch of pretty power while your treating yourself to softer, smoother kisser.
If you’ve got big Valentine’s Day plans coming up, you’ve got quite a bit to consider: what to wear, where to go, red lips vs gloss, the gift, the card, so on and so forth! Lucky for you and I both, my friends at Beauty Coach came through to make sure our hair will be one less thing we have to worry about. Their easy-to-do romantic looks are pure perfection, whether for a special date with your honey or for going out with the girls. Continue Reading
