I receive so many emails from readers who are uncomfortable with their body and let it prevent them from living their lives to the fullest. Trust me when I say I have my own hang ups. Everyone does!! So I understand the desire to hide out when an opportunity arises that will expose an insecurity leaving you feeling vulnerable. Tamar’s email inspired me and I hope my reply will inspire some of you. If you have additional advice on this topic, please chime in on the comments below!
I’m from the Netherlands so I’m sorry if my grammar isn’t right. Since it’s summer and it’s getting warm outside, a lot of my friends throw their birthday parties at the swimming pool. I love to swim, that’s not the problem, but I hate my body. I don’t feel confident in my bikini at all.
I actually don’t want to go because of that, but I also don’t want to miss my friends birthday. I don’t know what to do. Can you help me?
First of all, you’re not alone in feeling this way. In fact, I can guarantee you’re one of many at your friend’s pool party feeling this way. I’ve never known anyone who loves 100% of their body, 100% of the time.
Second, let’s delete the word “hate” from our vocabulary when discussing our bodies. It’s okay to believe certain areas can improve, but this is your body and it’s the only one you’ve got — so be kind to yourself!
The trick to feeling extra confident in what you’re wearing is to flaunt the body parts you love and distract from the parts of you that you’d rather keep to yourself. For example, some girls know they have a beautiful back and they would feel extra confident in a one piece with a reverse deep v. Or, let’s say you aren’t feeling so bikini ready in the mid section, but you’re good with your arms. Choose a strapless maxi dress that draws the attention upward, where you want it.
I vote for you not missing your friend’s party. The way I see it, you have two options:
1. Jump into that pool rocking a bathing suit that makes you feel confident, or
2. Wear an awesome poolside outfit that is meant for lounging by the pool, not in it.
There are so many options for both! Bikinis aren’t the only way to go. You’ll notice I was all about the one-piece at my birthday party a few weeks ago!
Below are some of my favorite looks. Email me pics from the party! I know you’ll look great and have an amazing time!
