We’ve all been there. Or if you’re like me, you’re there pretty much every night. A few hours post dinner, somewhat close to bedtime, a little voice pops into my head and says, “I’m kinda hungry…”
I know we’re not supposed to snack late at night, but how bad can it be, really? Samantha’s Ask Jules email made me wonder: are all nighttime snacks created evil? I asked my friends at Nourish what we should snack on in our jammies.
Spring cleaning isn’t just about freshening up your physical space. It can also be a great time to clean up certain aspects of our lives, giving us a chance to go into the new season refreshed and ready. I thought about some of the areas of my life that could use a good dusting and below is what I came up with. Do you have any to add?
Touch up my relationships.
It’s easy to let distance and time take you away from the ones you love. I am proud of my relationship with one of my best friends, Maude. She might live what feels like a million miles away, but we make an effort to touch base as often as possible. That’s why we’ve been able to maintain a friendship since we were ten years old!
Still, there are people in my life I haven’t been so great at keeping in touch with. Often they cross my mind and I say to myself, “I should really check in with them.” This month, I will set aside some extra time to reach out to the people on that list. Bonus points for handwritten letters!
Clean out my to-do list.
We all have that growing list of things we really have to do, or we really should do, or whatever the status may be. I’ll get to it when I get to it, right?? This ongoing list of tiny tasks gives me major anxiety. I mean, some of the things on my looming list are: clean out the trunk of my car, organize my junk drawer, look over the expiration dates on my spices — you get the idea. This is the season of no to-do lists! I’ve committed to doing at least one item per weekend. The funny thing is, once I get started I know it will go quickly! It’s just the getting started part that’s so hard.
My gift to myself is going to be clearing my conscious of these nagging tasks. Consider the whole thing checked! (Seriously this time.)
De-clutter my schedule.
I’m a firm believe that a little routine goes a long way. I like to have standing days and times for workouts, hikes with Lexi and Harley, date nights with Brooks, time with my girls, and, equally important, some ME time. Knowing what lies ahead week after week makes me feel organized, and with the Move Tour right around the corner, I need all the organization and sanity I can possibly get. I’ve decided that every little item I schedule over the next few months will be something that is either essential to my professional life or something that will bring me great joy in my personal life. Nothing else!
There’s a well-known saying that goes, “Great athletes aren’t born, they are made.” Well, I believe the same applies to confidence. Confident people aren’t born that way, it’s something they’ve grown to believe.
I would consider myself a confident person, but in all honesty, it takes practice. We all have moments of self doubt and uncertainty depending on what’s happening in our lives and how we’re feeling at the time.
I would like to just take this moment, to say thank you. Thank you for your support, your generosity, your love and passion to help those and help others.
When I watch Safe Haven (which is my favourite!) I can’t help but understand and empathise with the character Katie. You play her with so much confidence. You took the role and made her come to life, providing me with the feeling that someone else understands.
I’ve had my fair share of problems, and I’m still dealing with them now; but I use the character of Katie as a role model. She found happiness and self confidence in her darkest times, so will I find mine?
My question is: how did you get so confident? Were you born confident? Do you have any tips for growing confidence?
I am almost in my final year of teacher training, and confidence when I’m not in the classroom is a downfall of mine. I want to be the best teacher I can possibly be, so any tips or advice on self-growth would be fantastic. Thank you!
I love any side dish that can make your main course seem even more exciting. I also love the way Lori Zanini has created such delicious recipes that never make me feel like I’m missing out because I’m eating healthy.
This Mexi-Cauli Rice recipe is beautiful, tasty and good for you — the recipe trifecta! Plus, it’s a snap to make. Let’s get cooking!

When he’s not painting the faces of his famous clients to perfection, Beau Nelson is taking inventory of the latest beauty products and investigating them through and through.
We’ve all heard if it’s smooth, supple skin we’re in search of, exfoliating and moisturizing is key. I’m constantly seeking out new ways to upgrade all my routines to ensure I’m getting the best results possible. Upping or maintaining my soft skin game is always on my list of to-dos, so I asked Beau for his list of must-haves for head-to-toe smoothness. I was pleasantly surprised to see the product that tops his list is under $7!
Read on for Beau’s expert skin advice…
Salux Exfoliating Japanese Nylon Cloth
This amazing cloth is reusable, washable, and long enough to hold in both hands so you’re able to scrub your own back really well. For anyone who has ever been to a Korean Spa, this exfoliating cloth is similar to what they use. It really, really exfoliates, so for those with super sensitive skin it might not be the best option. But for everyone else, it’s great. Use this everywhere but especially on elbows, knees and ankles.
Kiehl’s Creme Des Corps
The best all around body lotion. Leaves skin silky with a subtle sheen and is un-fragranced so it won’t interfere with your perfume.
Jordan Seban L’guile Oil This genius product is totally organic and has a subtle neroli fragrance due to the natural oils in it. It works to protect hair and skin by giving back vital nutrients. I like to use Creme Des Corps first and put this on top for extra moisture, especially on elbows and knees. It’s also perfect as a night treatment for hair; put a small amount in the palms of your hands, and work thru hair, you can rinse in the morning.
To me, Valentines Day is about celebrating love, and not just romantic love. You can love a teacher, a mentor, a friend. The Ask Jules email below asked about one of my favorite Valentines for over five years now, my assistant and great friend, Kristy Sowin. Her story for how we met is an inspiring one. As the saying goes, everything happens for a reason! And I’m glad this one happened to us.
My name is Laurie, and first I want to tell you that I am a big fan of yours! I have a question for you. I would like to know how you and Kristy met and became such close friends? You have such a good friendship. 👯
Montreal, Canada 🇨🇦
Hey, Laurie! Kristy, here. A lot of people don’t know how Julianne and I met, so I’m glad you asked! It’s one of my favorite stories.
Although I’m a very active person, there are definitely times when I feel chained to my desk — whether it’s reading a script, working on this website, or catching up on emails. I understand the feeling of not having enough hours in the day to get up and move. When I received this Ask Jules email from Chloe, I knew exactly who should handle it: my trainer and friend Erica Hood from Body By Simone! Erica has many clients who work long, hard hours from their offices. She was happy to share the workouts she gives them, to you! Let me know how these go!
I currently work in a small office, in a very rural area, and I am starting to get paranoid about my lack of movement throughout the day! I can sometimes go hours without moving… and the worst bit is I don’t even realise! Eeeeek!
Do you have any ideas or tips for people who work in office environments and staying fit?! I need to move more but am struggling to find a way to do so within a small office. Any advice would greatly appreciated!
Thank you! Big fan!!
I recommend getting a Fitbit! I own one and love it because it will tell you to get up and move around when you’ve been sitting still or have been inactive for too long. The Fitbit app is super user friendly and you can adjust your settings for certain time increments that work best for your schedule. For example: every hour remind me to get up & move! When the alarm goes off you simply stand and do some squats, jumping jacks or walk around the office.
Here are some step-by-step exercises that you can do at your desk (even in a small space). All you need is your desk chair. The exercises range from beginner to advanced.
**Please execute with caution & avoid using a chair with wheels.**
Best of Luck,
When it comes to styling anything — an outfit, your hair, a home, it can be especially difficult to execute your vision without a certain level of expertise. That’s part of what makes stylists and designers so essential. They are able to take a concept or idea and make it a reality, in the best way possible. I turn to the special specialists in my life in areas such as home decor because they truly know their craft. Not only do I enjoy the end result but I learn so much working with these artists. If you love my at-home style then you’ll love my interior designer Jake Arnold. Jake was generous enough to give this reader’s home some special attention, just as he does for me. I love the suggestions he made for Venita’s room refresh!

I’m in need of refreshing this room! I love your style. Anything will help!
When looking at this space I see many quick, easy and inexpensive ways to refresh and spruce up the room. Before changing out any furniture or adding any accessories, there is a quick to-do list that will ensure a fresh new slate to work with.
1. Painting the walls a soft white will instantly refresh the space and add a new lease of life and the perfect backdrop when adding in other textures and materials to create a well balanced space. Try Benjamin Moore’s Simply White
2. The fireplace is the main feature of the room, so it is important to either work with it to add to the overall aesthetic of the room or to mask it. I always believe less is more. Instead of introducing another color or bold print that may become tired and fall into the trend of cement tiles that is a trend that is already getting old, use a simple natural hand made tile to add texture and interest. Look for Zellige Tiles in white.
3. Mirrors in any space are a must! Not only does it make your space feel larger and add depth its a great way of bouncing light around the room. Hang a mirror over the fireplace for maximum sophistication.
4. When it comes to plants and natural elements a tree is the best way to add life to any space big or small. The current tree in this room needs an update to reflect the soft, muted feel of the furnishings that I think work best in this space.
5. When in doubt do less — not more — and strip back strong elements first before adding more to avoid a messy result. Stick to neutral large pieces and introduce color through muted pillows, textiles and greenery.

When it came to shooting the campaign for Giorgio Beverly Hills Glam, my glam squad went all out. Much goes into consideration when you’re creating the look for a campaign. It’s not quite as simple as just “looking pretty.” The team has to brainstorm the story we’re telling and the tone we’d like to convey.
For this campaign, we knew that the Giorgio Beverly Hills girl is clean, pretty, and glamorous. Make-up artist Beau Nelson took that inspiration and my desire to look like myself — natural but with a bit of polish. The look he created was pure perfection! So much so, that many of you have been asking how he created it and with what products. Beau was kind enough to share his tricks of the trade with us all!
Starting and maintaining a blog isn’t quite as simple as write, click, post. There’s a whole lot more to being a bona fide blogger. Gurtej’s email brought me back a few years before I had my website up and running. I had many of the same concerns as she does, like: Would anyone visit the site? Would they be as inspired as I hoped? How do I keep you guys coming back? I am happy to say I’ve learned a lot about blogging and I’m happy to share it here!
My name is Gurtej Matharu and I love your blog, it is truly filled with positivity and inspiration.
I was wondering if you have any advice to blogging beginners? This October I started my blog called Cup of Tea for Thought.
I am having so much fun with the blog, but I cannot help but feel as if it is not going anywhere. I started a blog for me, because I was having some trouble adjusting to the new University I go to, but I also started the blog because I wanted to be able to inspire people the way people have inspired me through their blogs.
I know I have just started and things like this take time, but I was wondering if you could give me some advice?
Thank you so much!!
PS: Thanks to your challenge post, I started a challenge for myself this month! I call it the December to Remember Challenge, it is basically a challenge to make the most out of life’s little things from taking a walk in the park with my dog to volunteering where ever help is needed.
All the Best,
