A few weeks ago on Dancing with the Stars, I wore a sleek gold dress with a dark red lip and slicked back hair fashioned into a dramatic fishtailed top knot. I knew I loved this look, but I didn’t realize that you all loved it too until I got home and read your comments (thank you, btw!).
There were countless questions about the braided top knot and how stylist Chad Wood hooked it up. I figured it would be best if the creator himself shared his step-by-steps to top knot perfection.
Take it away, Chad!
PS: Let me know if you try this! Tag me on Instagram @JulianneHough_com — I wanna see your top knots!
Last night was the first part of the Dancing With The Stars finale, and it did not disappoint! My very favorite moment of last night’s show were the freestyles. The freestyle is a great way to show a contestant’s journey and how far they’ve come by the end of the season. Even though all of the finalists are mentally and physically exhausted beyond belief, the energy still came through!
Alek and Lindsay’s freestyle was incredible. He nailed the performance, and Lindsay’s choreography was next level. Bindi and Derek’s dance was beautiful and breathtaking; I was definitely holding back the waterworks on that one! Carlos and Nick were also phenomenal in their performances and brought an amazing energy into that ballroom.
Last night on Dancing With The Stars we witnessed something truly great. Alexa PenaVega’s contemporary dance, brilliantly choreographed by her partner Mark Ballas, was more than just a dance. It was bigger than her — it was a tribute to anyone who has ever struggled to overcome something.
Before her dance, we saw her speak openly about her struggle with bulimia, and how she overcame it. You could see in her movements that she was conveying something so deeply personal, and everyone in the audience was truly moved when the dance was over. I had goosebumps!
My favorite moment from last night’s Dancing with the Stars should come as no surprise to all of you who were watching. Nick Carter’s dance was beyond words. It was beautifully choreographed and performed. Bruno described it best as “dance poetry.” There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as Nick and Sharna danced a contemporary routine dedicated to Nick’s love for his pregnant wife. I was so glad to be the last judge to speak because I was so emotional. Watching this over again I still get goosebumps!
It was Halloween week on DWTS and the truth is, there was no favorite moment because the entire show was my favorite! The special effects were great except they used so much smoke to create a spooky effect we were all coughing throughout the show. It was pretty funny. I loved the videos of the dancers and celebrities getting scared. Tom’s co-host, Leah Remini got so scared that she just dropped to the floor! It was hilarious!
The Halloween theme and vibe was certainly strong in that ballroom. I have to give major props to the hair and makeup department, wardrobe department, crew and entire production. They did a spectacular (spooktacular!) job. Mary Guerrero is the department head for hair, Zena Shteysel for make-up, Howard Sussman for wardrobe. You guys were amazing tonight!
I will say, I was really sad about Hayes leaving tonight. I don’t think it was his time to go. It just goes to show you really do need to vote!
Did you watch? Have you been voting??

My favorite moment on Dancing With The Stars last night was… hmmmmm let me think about it… what could it be?? OH YEAH — OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN (AHHHHHHH!) I was incredibly honored to sit next to Olivia (can I call her Olivia?) at the judges table.
Grease has been my favorite musical since always! It actually inspired me to become an entertainer. I’m still pinching myself over the fact that I have the opportunity to play Sandy in Grease Live on Fox on January 31.
You can imagine how surreal it was sitting beside her. I’ll always remember last night!
On last night’s Dancing With The Stars, celebrities danced to commemorate their “most memorable year.” To say this episode was a tear jerker is a major understatement. It was beautiful to hear about the backstories of the people we are getting to know little by little every week. This episode brings out a vulnerable side of people and allows them to find beauty in that space. For that, it is one of my most favorite weeks on the show every season.
Bindi’s dance in particular was pretty spectacular. She dedicated her dance to her dad, the late, great Steve Irwin. Everyone was brought to tears and inspired by her courageous performance.
My favorite moment from last night’s Dancing With The Stars was having my oldest sister Sharee at the show! During my sissy’s visit we squeezed in some fun at the beach, got our sweat on in an intense workout, got ready for the Emmy’s and of course watched the magic happen on the ballroom floor.
How exciting was last night’s first show of the season on DWTS?! I am so happy to back! I really missed the dancers, judges and crew. The beginning of the show is really special because you get to see the contestants go through the motions of stepping out onto the stage for the first time. Watching them take that first step and just going for it is the greatest. I was really impressed with what I saw! Definitely some serious competition out there this season.
My favorite DWTS moment from last night was when I got to dance, of course! It’s crazy to think before tonight, I hadn’t danced on the show since last season. I cannot express enough how much of a thrill it was to be back on that stage! What an honor to be part of Allison and Riker’s dance, too. I am still overcome with the excitement and adrenaline that comes with sweeping across the ballroom floor. Also very moving was Len’s beautiful and touching performance. I didn’t expect to have such an emotional night. It truly was special.
What did you guys think?
