The Ask Jules email below brought to my attention how similar it can be to prepare for prom and getting ready to walk the red carpet. As daunting as both can be, it’s important to maintain a healthy mindset, dress in a way that makes you feel your very best, and remember to be kind to yourself. You deserve it!
I just wanted to tell you how much you inspire me through your kindness and motivation. You’re one of the people I look up to most in life and I just want to thank you for showing me how to help others and be the best version of myself! Secondly, I am a senior in high school and prom is coming up so I have a few questions that I’d love to know your advice/opinions about.
My first question is about the dress. I am not a very materialistic person so it is not too important to me that I have a super expensive, fancy dress, but at the same time I still want to feel pretty and princess-y. Do you know of any relatively inexpensive options or any tips on how to feel confident in a dress?
I’ve been eating well and trying to live a more holistic life lately, which has helped a lot to boost my confidence, but there are some days when I still struggle with that. Do you have any tips that you use on red carpets or for formal events that keep you feeling happy and confident even after multiple hours? I know the red carpet and prom are completely different but I think some of the concepts are similar.
Also if you have any input on makeup and hair you’re willing to share I’d love to know!
I know you’re a super busy person and I’ve asked a lot (sorry for that) but if you do read this I would be super, super, appreciative and thrilled if you responded. Thank you for everything!!!
According to eco-chic nail stylist Debbie Leavitt, the look for manis this spring is all about layering and depth. If you’ve got a fashion magazine (or five — no judgement) within reach, chances are Debbie’s hands are behind the manicures on the cover page and featured story. She doesn’t just know what the trends are, she basically starts them!
And, I’m feeling very lucky because Debbie created three exclusive inspirations for spring, just for us. She also included step-by-step instructions so we can recreate them at home. It’s a perfect weekend project!
A Few Tips Before You Begin
Tip 1: Wait for polish to dry between steps. It makes it easier to create clean lines.
Tip 2: Dusty mauves are a big color this season. Pop it up with a contrasting bright and bold color like hot pink or orange!
Tip 3: To create “monogram” letters like the “J” and “H,” use a nail dotter. (You can use a toothpick if you don’t have a nail dotter.) The easiest way to use either is to lightly touch the tip of the pen or pick into the edge of the polish. The more polish on the tool, the harder it is to make precise dots. Continue Reading
If you follow me on Instagram you already know I just had my epic bachelorette party. For my BEACHelorette, my closest girlfriends and family took a trip with me to lovely Mexico. This weekend away was so special and unforgettable! It was so much more memorable than almost any vacation I’d ever taken because I was surrounded by some of the most important people in my life.
In addition to the fun we had dancing, boating, and swimming, we also played with our style. Although my captain’s hat tops them all, everyone brought their cutest bathing suits, cut out dresses, fringed accessories and cover-ups. Continue Reading
Earlier this month, my lovely friend Nina celebrated her birthday with a La La Land inspired party. (Have you seen the movie yet?!) She looked gorgeous in a blue dress similar to the one Emma Stone’s character, Mia, wore during the musical scene, “Someone in the Crowd.” I wore a yellow number like the one seen on the movie’s poster. We all had a great time going with this theme. Derek was looking especially dapper in that newsboy cap! This night was one to remember, just like the film.
I don’t know about you, but winter weather makes my strands slightly unruly. The second my hair gets a hint of the chilly air it decides it’s just gonna do it’s own thing. My feeling about this is if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em! Rather than fight the frizz I just go with it.
With that in mind, I’m in love with this sweet style created by Grace Crivello at the Nine Zero One Salon in West Hollywood! The bobby pins look like an art installation. It’s the perfect style for a regular day or I’m thinking it can be dressed up for a holiday party by using fancier pins in place of regular ones. Continue Reading
Lexi, Harley and I were on our way to work on a top secret project (which I can’t wait to share with you guys!) when I took a step back to recognize how much I loved this look. This fringed graphic sweater feels like a dream and the white oxfords made me feel extra fancy.
This style can be recreated for literally any budget! You don’t need a million bucks in the bank to look like — you guessed it — a million bucks! Check out these excellent options for feeling extra cool in your everyday… Continue Reading
A few weeks ago on Dancing with the Stars, I wore a sleek gold dress with a dark red lip and slicked back hair fashioned into a dramatic fishtailed top knot. I knew I loved this look, but I didn’t realize that you all loved it too until I got home and read your comments (thank you, btw!).
There were countless questions about the braided top knot and how stylist Chad Wood hooked it up. I figured it would be best if the creator himself shared his step-by-steps to top knot perfection.
When my friend and hair stylist Riawna arrived to the Dancing With The Stars set last week we immediately burst into laughter.
She was wearing one of my favorite outfits — or, was I wearing hers? I can’t remember. Regardless, we were both wearing one-piece denim jumpers by Forever 21. Riawna and I obviously agree, one and done is the way to go!
A simple, stylish one piece is not only comfortable, it’s ridiculously convenient. You can forget about the stress of putting together an outfit when all you have to do is grab a few accessories and go.

Handbags are getting some serious attention this season as far as accessories go. Most designers went for a very specific and textured look this season. Velvet has taken over accessories in general. Bags, shoes, boots, and other staples are all featuring the soft stuff. Come to think of it, most of the fall trends for purses are all about fluffy or cozy materials.
Here are three bag trends I’m loving right now:
1. Faux Fur
At first, I wasn’t so sure about this style but after some online research, I found appreciation for the “furse.” Is it right for say, brunch? Maybe not. But it could be really cute with a sweater and booties. Or even with the right dress. The only thing I’d avoid with this bag is wearing any other furry clothing or accessory because that would just be too much.
Maybe it was passed down to you from your grandmother, or maybe it was on sale last week. Either way, these precious vintage (or inspired) pieces are versatile and chic. I give them a definite thumbs up. Continue Reading
