Exactly one year ago today this website went live. I knew it would be a great deal of work, but I also knew it would be well worth it. Finding new recipes, experimenting with DIY projects, and playing with new trends has been a ball — but truthfully, what made this year truly exceptional was all of you.
I anticipated having a few readers, but the comments left by the supportive, creative, cool community (that’s you!) is way beyond my expectations. I created this site as a way to share and communicate with you but also as a way for you to communicate with each other! I especially adore when you share your thoughts, ideas and experiences along with mine. So THANK YOU for being a huge part of this happy space!
I’d also like to thank everyone who has written in to “Ask Jules.” Your questions and ideas inspire many of my posts! Many of the emails I receive are so personal and brave. Although not all of them are posted, I appreciate you sharing a piece of yourself with me. Keep the emails coming! I LOVE connecting with you guys.
To celebrate 12 months of amazing, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite posts to date. Which do you love most?
1. Grocery Girl’s Guide to Glossy Hair: I still love using this hair mask, and it always delivers!
An enormous thank you to everyone who tuned in to Grease Live last night! This was one of the most exciting nights of my career and to see my excitement mirrored in you all meant the world to me. So again, thank you!
The videos submitted for the Grease challenge were nothing short of epic! I knew you all were talented but I had no idea just how talented! Choosing a top five was nearly impossible. You guys are the best!
Last night on Dancing With The Stars we witnessed something truly great. Alexa PenaVega’s contemporary dance, brilliantly choreographed by her partner Mark Ballas, was more than just a dance. It was bigger than her — it was a tribute to anyone who has ever struggled to overcome something.
Before her dance, we saw her speak openly about her struggle with bulimia, and how she overcame it. You could see in her movements that she was conveying something so deeply personal, and everyone in the audience was truly moved when the dance was over. I had goosebumps!
My favorite moment from last night’s Dancing with the Stars should come as no surprise to all of you who were watching. Nick Carter’s dance was beyond words. It was beautifully choreographed and performed. Bruno described it best as “dance poetry.” There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as Nick and Sharna danced a contemporary routine dedicated to Nick’s love for his pregnant wife. I was so glad to be the last judge to speak because I was so emotional. Watching this over again I still get goosebumps!
It was Halloween week on DWTS and the truth is, there was no favorite moment because the entire show was my favorite! The special effects were great except they used so much smoke to create a spooky effect we were all coughing throughout the show. It was pretty funny. I loved the videos of the dancers and celebrities getting scared. Tom’s co-host, Leah Remini got so scared that she just dropped to the floor! It was hilarious!
The Halloween theme and vibe was certainly strong in that ballroom. I have to give major props to the hair and makeup department, wardrobe department, crew and entire production. They did a spectacular (spooktacular!) job. Mary Guerrero is the department head for hair, Zena Shteysel for make-up, Howard Sussman for wardrobe. You guys were amazing tonight!
I will say, I was really sad about Hayes leaving tonight. I don’t think it was his time to go. It just goes to show you really do need to vote!
Did you watch? Have you been voting??

My favorite moment on Dancing With The Stars last night was… hmmmmm let me think about it… what could it be?? OH YEAH — OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN (AHHHHHHH!) I was incredibly honored to sit next to Olivia (can I call her Olivia?) at the judges table.
Grease has been my favorite musical since always! It actually inspired me to become an entertainer. I’m still pinching myself over the fact that I have the opportunity to play Sandy in Grease Live on Fox on January 31.
You can imagine how surreal it was sitting beside her. I’ll always remember last night!
My favorite moment from filming last night’s Dancing With The Stars was when my mom came to the show! It’s awesome getting to see her watch the entire show from the corner of my eye (hey, I’ve got a job to do here!). No matter who is dancing — whether it’s Derek or someone she’s never met — if it’s a dance she likes she can’t contain herself. She jumps up out of her seat with excitement, beaming throughout the performance. I love it!
Whenever my mom is in town we try to pack in as much catch-up time as possible. She always says, “Hurry up and tell me everything!” I am elated that she’s staying with me for some much needed mommy/daughter time. I’m very grateful for my career, but sometimes it’s tough having to uphold an image of strength and certainty when you’re not feeling 100%. Like many of you, my many hats require me to make decisions that are overwhelming and make me feel weighed down.
Right now I’m loving my over-the-knee black boots! They go with everything from a cute dress to a pair of jeans or even with leggings. They instantly dress up a casual outfit, making a pair of jeans with a plain tee look chic and fashion forward.
As you now know, I love anything that you can throw on that will pull an outfit together, and these boots are definitely in my arsenal.
