A few weeks ago, my girlfriends and family hosted my bachelorette party down in Mexico. It was one of the most memorable weekends of my life! There are few instances where almost all the ladies you love most come together to celebrate love –- and to me, that’s the best part of the bachelorette tradition. When I received this Ask Jules email from Ami about throwing the perfect bachelorette party for her friend, I knew exactly who to turn to for advice: Lauren Bushnell. Lauren is another bride-to-be, and she also knows a thing or two about being a bachelorette (wink wink).
Read on for her awesome suggestions for hosting the ultimate LA-based bachelorette bash!
I am SO excited to be able to get your advice on how to throw the perfect bachelorette party for my bff! You seem to throw the best parties whether it be Bachelor viewing night, family gatherings at the lake or summer hangs by the pool!!
Carrie and I have been best friends since high school and she is the last of our group to get married and just a super special girl!!:) There will be 10 of us and we want to keep it flirty and fun with just a little bit of sexy to make her turn red! Can you give me some suggestions for the LA area in late April?
I LOVE bachelorette parties! Having all your girls in one place, celebrating love while also letting loose is the perfect equation for fun. Planning a wedding is a lot of work so bach parties are a much needed escape from the stresses of preparing for the big day.
I personally have always liked the more low-key getaways. Los Angeles is a great place for the ultimate girls trip. Don’t get me wrong — I love a good weekend in Vegas, but when it comes to Bachelorette parties that type of adventure is predictable and overdone.
When it comes to LA, Santa Monica is a great place to enjoy both the beach and the city. There are plenty of bars nearby, lots of good shopping, and great food. It’s the best place to both relax and celebrate at the same time!
If you follow me on Instagram you already know I just had my epic bachelorette party. For my BEACHelorette, my closest girlfriends and family took a trip with me to lovely Mexico. This weekend away was so special and unforgettable! It was so much more memorable than almost any vacation I’d ever taken because I was surrounded by some of the most important people in my life.
In addition to the fun we had dancing, boating, and swimming, we also played with our style. Although my captain’s hat tops them all, everyone brought their cutest bathing suits, cut out dresses, fringed accessories and cover-ups.
Earlier this month, my lovely friend Nina celebrated her birthday with a La La Land inspired party. (Have you seen the movie yet?!) She looked gorgeous in a blue dress similar to the one Emma Stone’s character, Mia, wore during the musical scene, “Someone in the Crowd.” I wore a yellow number like the one seen on the movie’s poster. We all had a great time going with this theme. Derek was looking especially dapper in that newsboy cap! This night was one to remember, just like the film.
I had so much fun getting ready for Nina’s party that I pulled together some pieces to add to my everyday wardrobe that are inspired by the film’s colorful 1940’s attire.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: my sister Marabeth knows how to throw a party! A few weeks ago, she and her girlfriends got together for a Pizza and Pajama Party — but because we’re talking about Marabeth, you know they took things to the next level.
Rather than ordering delivery or popping some frozen pre-made pies in the oven, the ladies created a pizza bar complete with all the fixings to make their own personal slices of yum.
Not only is their pizza bar concept way more fun, it is a much healthier route to stuffing your face with pizza since you control the portion size by rolling out as little or as much crust and cheese as you prefer before piling on fresh veggies.
I mean, it’s basically a salad bar! But better.
My sister Marabeth and her girlfriends are always getting together to do fun and creative activities. I’m having serious FOMO from their latest get-together, where they did a sweet twist on an ordinary potluck. The hostess had sugar cookie dough on hand and asked everyone to bring their favorite cookie ingredients. Together they made combinations of cookies to enjoy warm out of the oven and package-up for friends and family. What ingredient would you bring to this party? I’m partial to the holiday M&Ms…
I’ll let Marabeth tell you how they made their delicious “Christmas Bars.” Let me know if you try them at home!
My girlfriends and I had so much fun making these simple Christmas Bars! We had everyone bring their favorite cookie ingredients to make a fun new creation together and share! It was a blast!! I bought my sugar cookie mix already packaged, but if you want to make yours from scratch I’ve included a recipe below. We added white chocolate chips and M&M’s. It was so super easy — and even more fun!
Basic Sugar Cookie Recipe:
• 1 1/2 cups of softened butter
• 2 cups of white sugar
• 4 eggs
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 5 cups all-purpose flour
• 2 tsp baking powder
• 1 tsp salt
There are great festivals and other happenings going on all around the world that some of us only get to experience via social media. I’m lucky to have had incredible experiences at Coachella, but there are many things I’ve yet to do. The #FOMO (fear of missing out) is real!
I love the idea of recreating your own version of an experience when you can’t make it to the real thing. What a genius idea!
Will any of you be trying this at home?
When I was planning for Brooks’ birthday party, I made sure we had all his favorite foods on hand. Typical pool parties have hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill, potato chips with creamy dip, and a sweet, sugary cake — I’m sure you’re thinking, YUM! I was, too.
But this was Brooks’ day, and I wanted to celebrate him and his healthy lifestyle. So instead of the typical fare we
Happy first of March! With spring well on its way and shamrock decor about to take over, this month is all about one color: green. The happy hue reminds me of all things fresh and bright, two things I strive to incorporate into my everyday. One way to celebrate the luck of the Irish and their signature grassy shade is to go green… on your eyes!
When I apply a colored eye shadow, I steer clear of going lid to brow. Especially in this case, where it would appear as if I’m growing a lawn over my eyes. Instead, I choose a neutral shade that matches my skin tone to accompany and balance out the stronger shade.
I’ve learned, to keep heavily pigmented colors from falling onto your face during application, causing crazy color cheeks (yikes), apply your eye make up before foundation. Post eye-make up, clear any debris using a cotton swab with toner.
I don’t know about you guys but I’m really looking forward to the Oscars this weekend! There were many incredible films this year and I look forward to celebrating them all. In addition to the theatrics, I can’t wait to see the second most important thing… what’s everyone going to wear?!
Getting ready is half the fun when it comes to going somewhere glamorous. So much thought goes into which dress, with what accessories, to the perfect makeup and right hair. The top designers, stylists and artists in fashion and entertainment come together to create these looks and I love seeing what they come up with. Everyone brings out the very best of the best for the Oscars, so it’s like every other red carpet combined — times infinity.
Last year, I had a blast with my BFF Nina in our (coincidentally!) red gowns. This year is going to be drastically different — I’ll be in DC with Brooks, having a watch party with a bunch of hockey players! 🙂
In the meantime I’ll be dreaming of my past styles! Here are five of my favorite gowns from different events:
Last week I finally got around to hosting a dinner in my new backyard! Much thought went into creating an intimate space for my friends to dine a la fresh air. I wanted each place setting to feel formal in terms of the set up, while keeping the vibe casual and comfortable.
