Hey, everyone! It’s Spencer Barnes again, here to chat some more about skincare and makeup. This time, we are going in-depth about bridal looks. Since it’s wedding season, I figured many of you brides-to-be might appreciate my makeup tips for your big day. This list is how I approach creating the perfect looks for my clients and friends on their wedding days. I hope you find it just as helpful!
Some of you may already know who I am but for those of you who don’t, Hi! I’m Spencer Barnes, Julianne’s friend and make up artist for nearly a decade. While Jules is away, she asked me to drop by her site and share some of my pre-wedding skincare tips. We specifically thought you might be interested to know how Julianne and my other clients prepare their pretty faces for some of life’s biggest events.
Whether you’re a bride-to-be or you have another type of major event coming up, one thing we all want on our big day is clear, glowing, gorgeous skin. This 10-Day Countdown is my guide for getting ready to put your absolute best face forward.
When he’s not painting the faces of his famous clients to perfection, Beau Nelson is taking inventory of the latest beauty products and investigating them through and through.
We’ve all heard if it’s smooth, supple skin we’re in search of, exfoliating and moisturizing is key. I’m constantly seeking out new ways to upgrade all my routines to ensure I’m getting the best results possible. Upping or maintaining my soft skin game is always on my list of to-dos, so I asked Beau for his list of must-haves for head-to-toe smoothness. I was pleasantly surprised to see the product that tops his list is under $7!

Salux Exfoliating Japanese Nylon Cloth
This amazing cloth is reusable, washable, and long enough to hold in both hands so you’re able to scrub your own back really well. For anyone who has ever been to a Korean Spa, this exfoliating cloth is similar to what they use. It really, really exfoliates, so for those with super sensitive skin it might not be the best option. But for everyone else, it’s great. Use this everywhere but especially on elbows, knees and ankles.
Kiehl’s Creme Des Corps
The best all around body lotion. Leaves skin silky with a subtle sheen and is un-fragranced so it won’t interfere with your perfume.
Jordan Seban L’guile Oil This genius product is totally organic and has a subtle neroli fragrance due to the natural oils in it. It works to protect hair and skin by giving back vital nutrients. I like to use Creme Des Corps first and put this on top for extra moisture, especially on elbows and knees. It’s also perfect as a night treatment for hair; put a small amount in the palms of your hands, and work thru hair, you can rinse in the morning.
Having a clear complexion is more than merely a surface situation. I know when I have a monster blemish I tend to be more standoff-ish and a little less confident. I can’t help but wonder when talking to someone, “Are they looking at me, or are they looking at my pimple?!”
Feeling good about my skin and appearance gives me an added sense of security. Like so many of you, I have tried endless amounts of products and treatments. The fact is, we all have different chemistry; it’s not a one-potion-fixes-all situation.
Sometimes in tougher cases it’s better to have a professional guide us in the right direction. The same can be said about make-up application. It’s not always about having the perfect red lip. Some of us weren’t blessed with a full brow and by filling it in, we feel like the better version of us. I say, whatever it takes to help you feel stronger, more confident and happier is what you should seek!
First of all you are my role model and I am so glad you started your website. I read something new on it everyday and it always inspires me. Anyways, my face has been looking really dry, and yours just looks amazing. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on getting a smoother softer face? If you have any, I am dying to know!
Thank you so much!
Beauty editors and bloggers have published countless lists of various serums, masks, and other must-have in flight items. While I’m sure their arsenal of products all work wonders, I prefer to keep these types of things to a minimum. The fewer products taking up space in my carry-on bag, the better.
Below are the basic can’t-travel-without-em skin savers I always have on hand as well as some common sense tips. So no matter where you are going, you arrive with your freshest face.
My #1 rule: No Makeup. If you’re flying straight from work or an event, or you want your babe to see the best painted version of you before saying goodbye at the drop off, okay fine. But wash it off before stepping foot on that flight. If you’re incredibly uncomfortable going without, a tinted-moisturizer, rose-hued lip balm, and a touch of mascara will do the job.
When I’m still at home, I gently wash my face and smooth on multiple layers of thick moisturizing cream. I also dab an extra layer of eye cream under my eye and up around my lower brow.
Drink lots of water! Flying can be super drying for your skin and body. It is worth the additional trips to the loo to keep you quenched from the inside out.
Next time you’re up for indulging in a great face mask look no further than your fridge. All you need to give your face a refresh and get a gorgeous glow is one ingredient: an egg. That’s right, nothing else needed!
An egg packs a ton of pretty power. It’s all about how you use it.
Below are my two favorite egg options — they both are wonderful, but have different results. Always start any facial treatment with a freshly-cleaned face, and pat dry with a clean towel. Once you’re prepped and ready, choose the mask that’s right for you!
