Hey, everyone! It’s Spencer Barnes again, here to chat some more about skincare and makeup. This time, we are going in-depth about bridal looks. Since it’s wedding season, I figured many of you brides-to-be might appreciate my makeup tips for your big day. This list is how I approach creating the perfect looks for my clients and friends on their wedding days. I hope you find it just as helpful!
Some of you may already know who I am but for those of you who don’t, Hi! I’m Spencer Barnes, Julianne’s friend and make up artist for nearly a decade. While Jules is away, she asked me to drop by her site and share some of my pre-wedding skincare tips. We specifically thought you might be interested to know how Julianne and my other clients prepare their pretty faces for some of life’s biggest events.
Whether you’re a bride-to-be or you have another type of major event coming up, one thing we all want on our big day is clear, glowing, gorgeous skin. This 10-Day Countdown is my guide for getting ready to put your absolute best face forward.
I’ve gotten several questions in my Ask Jules inbox about changing your skincare routine for the cold winter months. Because LA is a little different than the rest of the world when it comes to chilly temps, I brought in my expert in all things skincare: Spencer Barnes. Not only is Spencer my go-to when it comes to getting glam but he’s also the man with a plan for keeping your skin looking and feeling its best. His advice, like always, was right on point.
Spencer explained that for many, the winter months can cause a change in skin conditions. Our skin is the largest human organ and therefore the front-line defense of the immune system, so a little extra TLC goes a long way! He pointed out if you have normal to oily skin during the warmer months, you may find that in the cooler months your skin actually moves to normal or even dry. So if that sounds like you, definitely hang on to this for later this year.
Chapped lips are one of the most annoying things that can ruin a beautifully made up face. We can cover blemishes, enhance overly plucked brows, and add an extra layer of cream to dry skin. But when our lips are cracked, it feels like there’s not enough balm in the world to save them — and that’s because there’s not!
The best thing to do is treat your self with an occasional lip scrub to exfoliate the stuff that needs to go before you soothe and protect your pretty pout.
Being a teenager can be really tough. The whole “not a girl but not yet a woman” thing — shout out to Britney! — really threw me for a loop. All of these exciting opportunities like dating, driving, and working come along but then you realize those things comes with a whole lot of uncharted territory. Then you throw in the things you can’t control: acne, anxiety, confidence… It can be terrifying!
These Ask Jules emails reminded me of when I was a teen, navigating the new world of flirting and nervousness. I hope my answers help more than just a few of you out! If you can relate to the letters below, show your support by sharing your advice and experiences in the comments.
Every year the color experts at Pantone name a color that will serve as the “it” trend in fashion, home décor, beauty and beyond in the seasons to come. This year for the first time two shades were chosen: rose quartz and serenity.
According to Pantone, “Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.”
Whether you’re a trend follower or not, it’s still fun to seek out these colors especially when they evoke words like “calm” and “relaxation.”
I got pretty inspired while searching through some of my favorite products for shades of rose quartz and serenity. I always forget about blue mascara! It’s a subtle way to add a simple, surprising pop to your look. The same for light bubble gum pink lips.

Did too much kissing on Valentine’s Day leave your lips a little dry? Okay, that was super cheesy. But seriously, did it? Whether your pout is perfectly fine or not, tinted balms are truly the bomb. The good ones are creamy, effortless, and effective. The subtle hint of color provides a touch of pretty power while your treating yourself to softer, smoother kisser.

This two-step treatment will leave your hands looking, smelling, and feeling divine for days to come. The winter months can be really tough on all your skin, but your hands can sometimes get the brunt of those dry, cold and windy days.

Our sun-kissed summer skin has fast faded but it doesn’t mean we have to accept dull and dry faces for fall. No thanks! To keep our glow going we mainly have to boost hydration, exfoliate away the blah, and keep up with healthy choices that result in a reflection. I can keep my summer glow all through the winter months!
