When I began building my dream house I’d regularly reference the beautiful homes featured in Better Homes & Gardens. I’d snap pics and tear sheets to include as inspirations for what I would one day call my very own space. To have the tables turned and actually be the one inspiring others with my home is surreal, to say the least. The fact that Lexi and Harley got in on the action makes this feature one of my favorites. Lexi propping her arm up on the arm of the sofa is pretty much the best thing ever, right? She is so hilarious.
I need your help! I live in Toronto and bought a condo about a year ago (yay for home ownership!). I’ve slowly been making it my own, but have really struggled to come up with a plan for my bedroom.
As you can see, my bedroom is white on white on white and needs some sprucing up! I’ve recently purchased a grey padded headboard to start my redecorating, but haven’t been successful coming up with a plan to make it feel like the perfect escape. I love the look of shiplap and gallery walls, but have been cautious adding those as I don’t have a lot of square footage.
I’ve included pictures of what I’m working with; you’ll see I have big blank wall and have no idea what to put there, also need help with what to do above my headboard. Do I remove the mirrors over the bedside tables? Add in shiplap wallpaper on the wall? So many questions — would love help!!!
Congrats on your new condo! As exciting as it is to have a clean slate, it’s also daunting because the options are endless! I love the grey padded bed and headboard! This style is classic and comfortable.
I am a big believer in bedrooms being decorated with serenity, rest and relaxation in mind. To me, that translates to light, natural colors and a clean aesthetic. Luckily, you’re mostly there with all that white!
I do like the mirrors next to your bed but I’d like to see them above your bed, hung horizontally and spaced apart. What do you think? If you decide not to use those, a gallery wall would look really nice (the gallery wall plus those mirrors might be a bit much).
I’d keep the frames light and simple and choose consistent art or photos (for example: all black and whites or all nature images) to keep with your “perfect escape” vibe.
I don’t know about you, but winter weather makes my strands slightly unruly. The second my hair gets a hint of the chilly air it decides it’s just gonna do it’s own thing. My feeling about this is if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em! Rather than fight the frizz I just go with it.
With that in mind, I’m in love with this sweet style created by Grace Crivello at the Nine Zero One Salon in West Hollywood! The bobby pins look like an art installation. It’s the perfect style for a regular day or I’m thinking it can be dressed up for a holiday party by using fancier pins in place of regular ones.
Perfume is an extremely personal aspect of my life. No matter where I am in the world — traveling for work, visiting my family, or in the stands cheering for Brooks — having a consistent scent that stays with me keeps me grounded, elevates my confidence, and always makes me feel like myself. For these reasons and more, I’m truly thrilled to be the ambassador for Giorgio Beverly Hills’ newest fragrance, Glam. The notes of jasmine make me feel like I’m at home in nature and the hints of sandalwood and amber evokes my empowered side. It’s strong and powerful but at the same time glamorous and beautiful. I believe it’s important to feel connected to your distinct fragrance because not only does it say a statement about who you are, it can influence and inspire you from within. Like the brand, Glam is timeless, feminine, and sexy. I feel like it embodies a strong, powerful woman in control of her own life.
I haven’t lived in a dorm room, but I have lived on location while filming a movie and on a tour bus while on the road, so I know the importance of making the place you spend time in feel warm and personal.
Hals’ email hit a chord with me — plus it was so funny it made me LOL. I especially loved that she included lots of pictures. I gave her my best advice, but I think it would be awesome if you would jump in and add your own thoughts in the comments!
I NEED YOUR HELP!! I attend Nipissing University in North Bay, Canada. I love the school because it’s small and has amazing trails around campus. We even have our own waterfall!
But I have to admit, I sometimes feel like Bella Swan living in Forks. It’s grey, cold and damp. (Still waiting for a cute vampire to show up!) I have attached pictures of my dorm room and I just want some tips on how to make it feel warmer and more like home.
I love boho, plants, fluffy blankets, etc. Your collaboration with Joss and Main was my favourite! I love those kinds of looks but never know how to achieve it. I am super passionate about art; I’ve started to collect one piece every time I travel somewhere new.
Obviously being a student I’m on a tight budget, but I’m in this room constantly studying and reading, and I’m so tired of feeling like I live in a prison cell. Personally, I think the white brick gives off the perfect jail cell vibe. One of the photos includes my beautiful view (the grey skies match the grey buildings… how cute). Also I included a picture of my DIY lamp, where I put all my old tickets, of course it’s a picture of my favourite ones, MOVE LIVE TOUR and a Leafs vs Capitals hockey game where I saw your boy Brooks.
Your Biggest Fan,
PS: I love DIYs! I always do the ones you put on your website. I love the lip scrub made out of coffee grounds and the bath bombs were super fun to make! Anyways, hopefully you can help a girl out! Thanks for everything, Jules!
Lexi, Harley and I were on our way to work on a top secret project (which I can’t wait to share with you guys!) when I took a step back to recognize how much I loved this look. This fringed graphic sweater feels like a dream and the white oxfords made me feel extra fancy.
This style can be recreated for literally any budget! You don’t need a million bucks in the bank to look like — you guessed it — a million bucks! Check out these excellent options for feeling extra cool in your everyday…
A few weeks ago on Dancing with the Stars, I wore a sleek gold dress with a dark red lip and slicked back hair fashioned into a dramatic fishtailed top knot. I knew I loved this look, but I didn’t realize that you all loved it too until I got home and read your comments (thank you, btw!).
There were countless questions about the braided top knot and how stylist Chad Wood hooked it up. I figured it would be best if the creator himself shared his step-by-steps to top knot perfection.
Take it away, Chad!
PS: Let me know if you try this! Tag me on Instagram @JulianneHough_com — I wanna see your top knots!
When my friend and hair stylist Riawna arrived to the Dancing With The Stars set last week we immediately burst into laughter.
She was wearing one of my favorite outfits — or, was I wearing hers? I can’t remember. Regardless, we were both wearing one-piece denim jumpers by Forever 21. Riawna and I obviously agree, one and done is the way to go!
A simple, stylish one piece is not only comfortable, it’s ridiculously convenient. You can forget about the stress of putting together an outfit when all you have to do is grab a few accessories and go.

Handbags are getting some serious attention this season as far as accessories go. Most designers went for a very specific and textured look this season. Velvet has taken over accessories in general. Bags, shoes, boots, and other staples are all featuring the soft stuff. Come to think of it, most of the fall trends for purses are all about fluffy or cozy materials.
Here are three bag trends I’m loving right now:
1. Faux Fur
At first, I wasn’t so sure about this style but after some online research, I found appreciation for the “furse.” Is it right for say, brunch? Maybe not. But it could be really cute with a sweater and booties. Or even with the right dress. The only thing I’d avoid with this bag is wearing any other furry clothing or accessory because that would just be too much.
Maybe it was passed down to you from your grandmother, or maybe it was on sale last week. Either way, these precious vintage (or inspired) pieces are versatile and chic. I give them a definite thumbs up.
I’m so happy because I’ve just learned a beauty trend I am a huge fan of is here to stay. Many of us have embraced natural looking makeup look, which enhances features with modest highlighter and a rosy glow. This is a major departure from the highly contoured and heavily made-up look that was so popular not that long ago, and I’m loving this shift into a more natural look because sometimes it’s exhausting to have to put so much effort into something as tedious as your cheekbones, right?!
Models strutting down runways during New York Fashion Week had the same au natural beauty look I’ve been loving, meaning the same fresh-faced style will still be trending in 2017. Can I get a woohoo?!
To achieve this look, the overall rule is “less is more,” however, the truth of the matter is it takes a little work to look effortless. The key word here is “natural.” Steer clear of bright hues, instead seeking out pale pinks, nudes, and modest bronzes. In order to pull off a luminous look, I stay away from anything with shimmer unless it’s a highlighter. My must-have make up products for appearing makeup free are featured below.
