Saying adios to summer means it’s time to start tucking away our sunshine-y wardrobe to make way for fall wear. (A moment of silence, please.) Before you do a total seasonal switch out, think about some of the pieces you’ve been wearing and how they can transition to cooler weather and warmer tones.
I’m not quite ready to let go of some of my favorite summer trends. Chokers have been all over the place lately, looking super cute with tank tops and breezy dresses. I’m keeping these little guys around for fall, pairing them with sweaters, collared shirts, denim jackets and more. Mixing and matching seasonal styles is the best way to keep your favorite summer looks around for a little while longer, and I’m definitely going to be taking advantage of this sneaky fashion tactic!
I receive so many emails from readers who are uncomfortable with their body and let it prevent them from living their lives to the fullest. Trust me when I say I have my own hang ups. Everyone does!! So I understand the desire to hide out when an opportunity arises that will expose an insecurity leaving you feeling vulnerable. Tamar’s email inspired me and I hope my reply will inspire some of you. If you have additional advice on this topic, please chime in on the comments below!
I’m from the Netherlands so I’m sorry if my grammar isn’t right. Since it’s summer and it’s getting warm outside, a lot of my friends throw their birthday parties at the swimming pool. I love to swim, that’s not the problem, but I hate my body. I don’t feel confident in my bikini at all.
I actually don’t want to go because of that, but I also don’t want to miss my friends birthday. I don’t know what to do. Can you help me?
Every couple of months, we change out our accessories to coincide with a new season. Boots get swapped
for sandals. Turtlenecks get tucked away so the tank tops can come out. Dark, moody colors take a back
seat so bright, happy colors can shine. Since we shake up all our other accessories, why not switch the one we use all day, every day?
Phone cases have come a long way since smartphones hit the scene. No matter what theme or style you’re
looking for, there’s a case for you. To go with my seasonal color palette (and mood!), I was in search of a fun summer-themed case.
I found so many perfect designs it was impossible to pick just one!
I Need A Vacation $40 | Flamingo’s Paradise $24 | Shiny Stripes Print $32 | Classic Camper $40 | Ridin’ In My Caddy $32 | Tropicana $35 | Otterbox Floral $40 | Pineapple Lane $20 | Welcome to the Bahamas $35 | Call Wading $35 | The Sound of Musing $35 | Zero Gravity Pinned Forever $32
Which style is screaming to go home with you??
The chicest choice for a summer ensemble is most definitely the jumpsuit. A jumpsuit is the older, cool cousin to another favorite of mine, the romper (which is more casual). Jumpsuits are good for both work and play because they can easily stay with you from day to night. Not to mention getting ready with a one-
piece is a breeze given all you have left to do is accessorize.
When the sun stays out longer, I tend to stay out later. Don’t you? There are few greater feelings than getting off work knowing there are still hours of sunshine left in the day. I think dresses that take you from office-to-dinner are the ultimate summer staple.
If your school or office is on the conservative side, add a light blazer or cardigan to any of these looks and then tuck it away once you’re off the clock. If your day duties require you to carry a large purse, bring a foldable clutch for just the essentials and swap it out for your evening plans.
The “dress” I’m wearing in the photo above is actually a Vanessa Virginia tunic.
Why spend more time inside than necessary when the weather is this gorgeous?! I’ve rounded up some of my favorite ways to turn up my workouts by taking them outside with these awesome accessories. This way we can work on our fitness while having fun in the sun — a win/win if you ask me!
As with any workout you do, be careful, and if you’re body is telling you it’s had enough, be sure to listen! The outdoor elements can make any exercise more challenging, so start slow and work your way up to expert level workouts slowly.
We all know about the health benefits of drinking water throughout the day. Not only does it help your organs function better, staying hydrated is great for your skin, mood and energy levels. Staying on top of your intake can be challenging at times, and let’s face it — sometimes you want a tasty beverage or treat instead of a glass of regular ol’ H20. That’s where these three recipes come in; they are a few of my favorite water-based combos meant to help incorporate hydration throughout the day. Try them and let me know what you think!
My good friend Maria Menounos knows a thing or two about, well, everything! Her EveryGirl’s Guide book series covers everything from organization to exercise. One of the things I admire most about Maria are her superb cooking skills. She knows how to create the most fun and loving environment in her home with delicious recipes to match. You can actually taste all the joy and love she puts into each dish.
Knowing firsthand how amazing it’s going to be, I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of The EveryGirl’s Guide to Cooking when it comes out tomorrow! Until then, Maria handed over one of the 150 recipes featured in the book so I could share here with you!
The dishes are made with fresh, healthy ingredients for what she calls “splurge worthy” recipes. Sign me up for that!
Let’s face it, fall is right around the corner and pretty soon fresh summer fruits will be replaced with all things pumpkin spice. I love this simple, sweet and savory recipe using some of my favorite in-season fruits. The spice and salt give the perfect hint of something extra while the lime keeps it light and refreshing. It’s the perfect dish to serve at a dinner party, and it’s light enough to munch on for a snack.
They say you learn something new every day so a few days ago, this was my lesson learned. I was pretty blown away to discover when we’re feeling the heat of the hot summer sun it isn’t an ice-cold glass of anything that will cool us off quickest, but rather a warm mug of something.
Yup, you read right! Research shows when you drink something hot, the nerves in your tongue send signals to your brain telling it your body temperature is rising. Our brain tells our body to go into cool down mode, which begins with producing sweat. When the sweat begins to evaporate off our skin it lowers the temperature of our body. Crazy, right?
What’s the best hot beverage to sip if it’s super hot outside?
