If you follow me on Instagram you already know I just had my epic bachelorette party. For my BEACHelorette, my closest girlfriends and family took a trip with me to lovely Mexico. This weekend away was so special and unforgettable! It was so much more memorable than almost any vacation I’d ever taken because I was surrounded by some of the most important people in my life.
In addition to the fun we had dancing, boating, and swimming, we also played with our style. Although my captain’s hat tops them all, everyone brought their cutest bathing suits, cut out dresses, fringed accessories and cover-ups.
When it comes to weddings, string lights have been all the rage for quite some time. Their simple and starry like qualities are appealing. I can’t think of a time I’ve ever thought, “You know, that just doesn’t work for this space.” That’s because they practically work in every space! They’re downright dreamy. Thing is, they’re so likable that everyone likes them — meaning they’re everywhere.
And… I’m just going to come out and say it. I think it’s time to take down the strings and perhaps move on to something new.
There are many, many other visually stunning ways to light up your party. I’ve always been a fan of the outdoor chandeliers, rustic lanterns, Eastern-inspired pendants, and delicate fairy lights are just a few. Below are my top picks for wedding lighting, but could also easily work for backyard dinner parties and other outdoor events.
This year was amazing. I had lots of things to be grateful for, and one of them is all of you readers! This was my first year to do a blog, and I knew that it would be a huge commitment. I gave it as much love, time and energy as I possibly could, and I’ve loved every minute of it!
Over the last year, these five articles were your favorite. It was so fun to look back and see all your comments and see what you guys liked best!
Did I miss anything? 🙂
These Ask Jules emails stood out to me as I was reading all your great letters last week. What can I say, I have bride on the brain! While I’m still learning as I go through the process of planning my own wedding, I do know a thing or two when it comes to certain nuptial-related scenarios.
As always, I’d love for all of you to leave your best advice, too! It takes a village, after all. 🙂
My fiancé and I have never stepped foot on a dance floor. We’re getting married in April and after watching so many gorgeous slow dances on dwts we would love to have a beautiful first dance! What type/style of dance would you recommend that will be the easiest to pick up for us beginners but still be breathtaking!? We’ll be dancing to “The Luckiest” by Ben Folds!
Thank you so so much!!

Wedding season is said to be in the summer and early fall. When it comes to my wedding (and everything else in life) I like to skate a little bit outside the box. This got me thinking about winter weddings. The thought of getting married surrounded by snowcapped mountains and grey-ish white skies sounds pretty magical to me.
The wintry theme also allows for ethereal touches, like white feathers in the floral decor and hot toddies served at the bar. Below are some of the winter wedding inspirations I’ve pulled for my wedding mood board:
Even before I got engaged I wondered what style of bride I’d be when the time came. Just like everyday fashion, there are categories like romantic, dramatic, traditional, bohemian, trendy, sexy, and so on. Of course my advice to myself (as well as others) is to be true to me and who I am, but when it comes to style I find myself fitting into all of these categories — it just depends on what day it is!
I narrowed it down to my top five bridal personalities and created a mood board for each style using various dresses, accessories and other items. I am attracted to different aspects in all of them.
Come on, past brides… help me out! How on earth did you decide?! I found this mood board site for inspiration:
As soon as Brooks and I got engaged, we got to thinking: where should we get married? Brooks’ family is in Canada. Mine is Tennessee, Nevada and Utah. Our friends are spread out all across America and throughout Europe, too. A destination wedding would make sense, but where?
Am I the get married on the beach, toes in the sand kind of girl? Or would we rather do something unexpected in the winter, maybe in the snowcapped mountains? I’ve been to beautiful weddings at vineyards, ranches, on tropical islands, and they were each stunning in their own way.
I’ve been having so much fun researching ideas for my big day! Just as exciting as planning the wedding itself is going to be planning everything that comes before it. One thing I am really looking forward to doing is asking my bridesmaids if they’ll do me the honor or standing by Brooks and I as we say our vows. I love the idea of sharing this experience and doing something special for my friends and family as well.
Here are some incredibly cute and create ways to propose to your bridesmaids:
Although I knew Brooks was the one the day I met him, I had no idea what to expect as far as when and how he’d pop the question. Well… let me tell you guys, it was magical and sweet. We were at home, romantic and relaxed, which is perfectly very “us.” We stood on the deck, watching the sun set over the lake and listening to our favorite songs. Not even for a second did I expect that beautiful, serene scene was about to become one of the most meaningful moments of our lives. In fact, I was so taken aback when Brooks got down on one knee I completely blacked out! It was like a rush of heat and a wave of uncontrollable emotion swept right through my body. I didn’t have any words at first (me! no words!). All I could do was explode into his arms and experience pure joy from head to toe.
Being engaged didn’t truly hit me until I started saying “fiancé” out loud. “My fiancé loves that song. Let me check my fiancé’s schedule. Have you met my fiancé?” It’s crazy! I have to say, being engaged actually does feel different. There is a sense of strength in us, a feeling of being further grounded but most of all, it just makes me really giddy!
Dearest Friends and Readers,
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the outpouring of love and well wishes surrounding my engagement! This is certainly one of the most exciting times in my life and I am so happy to share it with you all!
That said, I’m going to take a slight social media time out to enjoy this special time with my fiance (!)… When I return to writing in a few days, I promise some exclusive details and pics just for you, so stay tuned!
