The Gift Of Giving Back
What’s better than gifting someone? Answer: gifting everyone! I searched high and low for do-good gifts that benefit people, animals, and the planet. Each of these companies offers gifts for both men and women. One stop shopping, that’s what I’m talking about!
For Your Earth Loving Friend
LumberUnion is a newly-launched Made in America clothing brand with an environmental initiative that hits close to home. They’ve partnered with American Forest, a global nonprofit organization committed to reforestation for over 140 years. Together they are working to reforest the millions of devastated acres in the USA created by this past season’s fires.
For each hat or tee you purchase, four trees are saved! It truly is the gift that keeps on giving to us all, for generations to come.
Logo Tee $44.95 • Snapback Signature Hat $39.95 • Union Tee $44.95
For Your Empowered Female Friend
Slum Love Sweater Company offers stylish clothing handmade in Nairobi, Kenya using organic and natural materials. They pay their knitters fair wages, treat them well, and offer them opportunities and resources needed to provide a better life for themselves and their families. Plus, a portion of every sale goes to a non-profit that provides high school scholarships to children living in one of the world’s largest slums.
Black Knit Scarf $55 • Black Cotton Beanie $27 • Navy Cotton Beanie $27
For Your Friend With Impeccable Taste
Local + Lejos is a home décor company that features unique, handmade goods created by artisans in Guatemala, India, Mexico, and Rwanda. L+L empowers their artisans to grow a business, preserve cultural traditions, and create sustainable futures for their families. Their blankets, baskets, bowls, pillows, rugs, ceramics and more are beautiful and so cool. It’s everything you’d find in a trendy retail store — but BETTER.
Verde Serape Blanket $72
Interiors Lover Gift Set $156
For Your Compassionate Friend
Heifer International has been on a mission to end international hunger and poverty for over seventy years. Through their gift catalog, they offer the opportunity for people like us to assist in their mission. Giving an animal to a family in need is like giving them a small business. The milk, eggs, wool, fertilizer for crops and so on creates income which gives that family access to medicine, school, clothes, food, etc.
Even further, that animal can breed babies who are then passed on to another family and before you know it, you’ve not only helped one family, but an entire community!
A creative way to gift this donation on behalf of a friend would be to gift wrap a framed photo of the animal you purchased. I’d love to have the heartwarming reminder that my gift is going where it’s needed most.
