The Importance of a Girlfriends’ Getaway
A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to take the ultimate girls’ trip with some of my lifelong friends. We all met in high school, and we’ve managed to stay closely connected even through all of life’s adventures. We usually only get to see each other during the holidays back in Salt Lake City, but we often fantasize about taking a vacation somewhere great. After eleven years of saying ‘we should’… it finally happened!
For our getaway, we cruised up to Alaska — definitely uncharted territory for most of us. We visited Ketchikan, Juneau, Tracy Arm Fjord, and Skagway. We loved going on those day excursions and learning what makes all those places unique. Each spot we visited was beautiful, and I’m so happy I got to share that experience with lifelong friends. Even with the unbeatable scenery, I have to admit the highlight from the trip was just having time to catch up with everyone. Each night we had long dinners and talked about literally everything going on in our lives.
These ladies have really taught me the importance of having a strong female support group in your life. There are some things in your life that your girlfriends just understand better than anyone else! But with marriages and kids and the busy nature of life, it can be difficult to meet up. If you have the chance to get together, I seriously suggest you make it happen! Besides giving you time enjoy each other’s company, traveling with your girls makes an opportunity for truly meaningful conversations that can encourage personal growth and healing — even if you don’t realize how much you need it!
Aside from all the deep talks, being with your favorite ladies and exploring a new place is so much fun. I think we were all so giddy to see one another that each day was sillier than the next.
One day we all bought red plaid onesies and decided to wear them to karaoke night on the cruise! Although we were the only ones in goofy outfits, we got the party started on the cruise and (this won’t surprise you) had everyone busting their best moves on the dance floor.
Our little getaway was the best trip any of us could have imagined. We all agreed to keep the tradition going and never again postpone a good time together. It’s so important to get back to your roots with the people who love you the most!
You don’t have to go on a whirlwind adventure to have a quality getaway with your ladies. Just grab your BFFs, make a pact to be totally present for at least 24 hours, and let the good times roll!
