Top 5 “Jules” Moments of 2015

This year was amazing. I had lots of things to be grateful for, and one of them is all of you readers! This was my first year to do a blog, and I knew that it would be a huge commitment. I gave it as much love, time and energy as I possibly could, and I’ve loved every minute of it!

Over the last year, these five articles were your favorite. It was so fun to look back and see all your comments and see what you guys liked best!

Did I miss anything? 🙂

Imagine if you will what it must be like to do a self mani-pedi on a moving tour bus. If you’re picturing a toddler’s hands after a messy finger-painting project, you’ve got the right idea. Even while poised on my non-moving couch, I’ve never been able to give myself a perfect paint job. Coloring inside the lines is easier said than done when there are shaky hands and a tiny brush involved.

I texted a pic of my manic manicure to my friend back home. “Apply lotion to the skin around your nail before painting. Game changer!” She replied. WHAT?! How did I not know about this?

Last night was nothing short of incredible! I always look forward to the finale show because we get to revisit all the dancers from the season and reminisce some of their best moves. My favorite part of the night was of course performing with my brother alongside Sia to her beautiful song, “Elastic Heart.” It was emotional and powerful but most of all — it was fun!

A little insider info: It was Sia who contacted Derek and said she wanted him to perform to her song. Meanwhile, Derek and I have been prepping for MOVE Live on Tour, and we already planned on putting this song in our show. Derek always envisioned it as a romantic love story but I saw it in a way that expressed the difficulties that come with a family’s love. In our lives, we’ve had experiences where we want so badly to keep the peace in our family. The lyrics say, “I’m like an elastic band. If you pull too hard, I’m going to snap.” We came up with a concept based around family dynamics and how a family’s love can be difficult, too.

Sometimes you just don’t feel like spending time and effort getting dolled up for a quick trip to anywhere. I love rolling out of bed and going straight to brunch — but nobody else should have to suffer from the sight of my bedhead. Am I right?

My goal is often to be out the door in five minutes, without looking like a hot mess. So here are the three keys for achieving maximum cuteness with minimal effort…

Although I knew Brooks was the one the day I met him, I had no idea what to expect as far as when and how he’d pop the question. Well… let me tell you guys, it was magical and sweet. We were at home, romantic and relaxed, which is perfectly very “us.” We stood on the deck, watching the sun set over the lake and listening to our favorite songs. Not even for a second did I expect that beautiful, serene scene was about to become one of the most meaningful moments of our lives. In fact, I was so taken aback when Brooks got down on one knee I completely blacked out! It was like a rush of heat and a wave of uncontrollable emotion swept right through my body. I didn’t have any words at first (me! no words!). All I could do was explode into his arms and experience pure joy from head to toe.

Whether you’re rushing out the door for the day or rolling out of bed for brunch, this braid will make you look effortlessly put together. It’s easy, gorgeous and works on most hair lengths.

Just follow these steps and remember- the most important part of achieving this look is making it messy, so it’s almost impossible to get wrong!
